The Jang Bong is a long stick, approximately 60 inches in length. It can be used to defend against an empty handed or armed attacker with ease. In Part One of the Jang Bong Fundamentals & Patterns DVD, filmed at a seminar, Sang H. Kim introduces the fundamentals of the Jang Bong including the two basic grips (for long and close range fighting), posture, offensive and defensive movements including straight striking, circular striking, hooking, thrusting, scooping and controlling techniques.

Great Teaching Tool for Students of Korean Combat Arts
This is an introduction to a Korean approach to the staff. Kim uses a slightly shorter staff than what we see in Chinese fighting styles. So if you are looking for traditional Chinese tactics, this is not for you. But if you are a fan of the Tae Kwon Do, this style is a good compliment. The video is suited for someone viewing with staff in hand, ready to do reps.

Top shelf instruction
This man obviously knows what he is doing. Very clear instruction and demonstration of movements and how to apply them in combat. I will be looking for more of his dvds as I have always loved stick and staff combat. Let me paraphrase what one review said, "You can clear a room with a broomstick". Good times!

Well Done!
Mr. Kim explains and demonstrates all the basic movements from different views. This makes it easy to learn each form that is sufficiently repeatedly displayed for a better grasp of a wholistic understanding. Minus a little noise in the background, this is a great tape.

Definitely Recommend.
Easy to follow instructions make this a must have for beginners with the jang bong. For more advanced practitioners, it is an excellent reference. Use it to add to your repertoire or learn a different approach to the long staff.

EXCELLENT BUT SHORT
THE DVD SHOWS ALL THE BASIC EXERCISES, STRIKES AND BLOCKS BUT HE ONLY SHOWS ONE BLOCK AND STRIKE COMBO AND ONE DISARM. THE REST OF THE DVD IS HIM DOING SIMPLE KATAS (FORMS) WITH THE STAFF(WHAT GIVES?). STILL A MUST SEE IF YOU NEED THE BASICS OF STAFF FIGHTING BUT TRY TO RENT IT BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED COMBAT APPLICATION.

Not as good as I had hoped.
The DVD doesn't play very well and it is not very long. It was useful but not all I expected it to be.
