Odd little player.... ;-)
Ok I own a lot of players, and a lot are Cowons. This one is kinda strange. Works goid, sounds good, but you can't do much more than the basics.First off it's way smaller in person than it looks in it's pictures. It has a black and white monochrome screen that is not too much bigger than my thumbnail. It works fine, but doesn't stay illuminated very long. Prolly to conserve battery. I can't imagine the battery on this thing is very big, but so far battery life has been very good esp when just turning on shuffle and letting it rip.Buttons are very intuitive with an easy file tree menu - has 4 sections - music, fitness, recorder, and settings. All sections have little more than the basics.I haven't tried the pedometer or the recorder. All I've done is loaded it w 15g of music and let it rip.Sounds very good, but there is no eq customization.I guess the problem is, you could get a Sony player w 16g of storage for about the same price, but you'd also get a usable screen, customizable sound, ability to view tiny album art and pics .... Etc.But if you want a tiny unique light weight good sounding music player/voice recorder, pedometer (if it works ok) I guess this is the player for you.I like it, would I buy another one? Prolly not, but I don't regret my purchase. It will remain to be seen how well the tiny battery that's in this thing holds up over time.....

eureka! the shuffle function actually works!
had an i-9 that i loved for running for it's light weight and long battery life but it finally died after many times getting wet and then a smashed screen had it stuck on shuffle for years (which is ok by me). then i went with a hifi walker HX, which is heavier but has excellent audio qualiity...the problem with it is the shuffle. i like to put 1000's of songs in there and like them to shuffle each time but it would only shuffle once and then every time play the songs in the same sequence (like they didnt test this function). i tried everything. updating the firmware, resetting and even randomizing the file names but even when i did that it would still only shuffle them once and always play the song in the same order. so i bought a bigger and clunkier fiio player and it does the same damned thing! so i went back to Cowon and bought this little guy. the audio quality is inferior to the hifi walker but the best you can get for the money and it shuffles! every time! i get to hear all the songs in there! the battery life is only about 5 hours but that's ok for most outings. love it. super light weight, no frills, sounds good ...and it shuffles!!! YES! kudos to Cowon for actually testing their software!

Garbage
Battery life is very bad; the touchscreen buttons are inaccurate (though there is apparently a firmware update to fix this); the USB charger is a molded piece of plastic with a 3.5mm jack on one side and USB on the other, so the device sticks awkwardly straight out of the system (read: it will break, it's just a matter of time); the charger is small and hard to find -- it has a circle to put it on your keyring but the circle broke; there is a firmware bug so that after a couple weeks I can NO LONGER CONNECT OVER USB TO TRANSFER FILES, so the current set of music is the only set of music it will ever hold; there is no reset button or debug mode that I am aware of, unlike every other Cowon model I've tried; the device does not come apart, unlike the D2 or C2; the headphone jack is sized weirdly (I guess so it can double-duty as a charger) which requires you plug it in a precise distance (and hold it very carefully) if you want both of your headphones to have sound; scratches easily; the amp is low-powered (~15mW vs >35 for other Cowon products) and often sounds bad, though maybe that is just the broken headphone jack.Easily the worst product Cowon has ever produced. I've tried the D2, D2+, C2 and S9 and had nothing but great things to say about them, but this is terrible. Not worth the $80.

could have been the best budget player... greed ruins it
I don't like all the overkilled color LCD display on which is supposed to be a music player, not a movie player that is so small that you need a magnifier to watch.I like the way it focus on the sound and pretty much enjoyed it, at least 1000 times better than Sansa, or my smartphone. Well, it could be just that Sansa has so awfully bad sound quality, and any smartphone has background noise problem. However, the reason why I could only give 3 stars at best...1. pedometer. Please just leave it to fitbit.2. $13 for additional clip? This one is outrageous...

No gapless. Cheap feel. Sound quality no on par with other Cowon players.
I use on a regular basis the Cowon iAudio i9 player. I listen to flac and mp3. I mix my own music to listen to while I run. This player does not play gapless. I see no setting to 'tick' to change to make this happen. Very disappointed a music player in 2014 can't play gapless. Also, I find the quality of the sound is not as good as my older i9. All in all, this player seems cheaply made.No a good purchase for me. Maybe this will fit other buyers better.
