Is the bowl removable for cleaning

Unfortunately, it doesn't - and that's a pity because it would make the machine so much easier to clean. When we buy a new one, we will ensure it has a removable bowl.

Why does my fryer smell when in use

I no longer have this fryer. I found it to leak onto the worktop.

what are the external dimensions please?

I can't remember the size but it was a bit on the large side for storing. I had to return it with a faulty thermostat and replaced it with a Tefal Maxi-fry 27cm by 31cm 23cm high and all in all a much better fryer in my opinion

Can I close the lid when the basket is raised out of the oil?. I used to have one that I did that with but can't remember the make.

No once the basket is raised you can't close the lid as basket sits to high
