great torch for what I wanted
I love this for certain projects in the shop. It is very adjustable, gets plenty hot for what I want (using standard propane) but ALSO adjusts down to small flame and does so well - no sputtering or flaming out. The base has been very stable. The cable is supple enough and so far held up well. The trigger start fires up every time when mid-flow or more. I often use at low and it starts fairly well at low, but not always - but I expect that, never had a trigger start torch that fired up well on lowest setting, just not something any of them do. But this fires up on low better than others i've used, so a plus, not a negative! I like that I can use it like a 'monentary' torch, firing it, heating, then releasing button as well as locking the flame on for when I need to heat longer. Occasionally I don't get it locked when I try, but not often and it's easy enough to re-fire it up and lock it. Overall, it's easy enough to use and consistent in operation that once you use it for a while, you can run it without thinking about it - THAT shows good design, the tool works for you and otherwise stays out of your way so you can concentrate on what you are making! I would highly recommend this for projects where you need a moderate heat torch that you can work on a paradigm of 'bring the work to the tool.' YES, it is portable around the shop, yard and wherever ... but because the canister sits on the ground or a bench, once you place it and start, the hose limits how far you can move without turning it off, relocating the base, and starting up again. NOT a bad thing, but just not as 'portable' within the field of work as a tank-top unit. BUT that is not what this is. If you need to move around a room using a torch, this is the wrong tool. Also, on high, perhaps it's the tubing, but it does not seem quite as hot/powerful as a tank-top model. For most things this doesn't matter, but for absolute maximum heat, this might be slower to heat than some tank-tops. For what it is, it's great, just know what you need before you buy it :) :) (actually, my wife might disagree, but you really DO need both this and a tank-top torch - bernzomatic makes a couple great trigger-start models ... I have one of the more pro models that lasted about 25 years... get both!!)

Great torch
Live the ease and convenience of this product. I use it for soldering jewelry and it works perfectly. Would buy again.

Great for Jewelry Making
Love it! I use this for making jewelry, I am using the Map gas. I was using small butane torches. This is so much hotter, quicker and easier to use. I make all my own copper ball tip headpins, some soldering, lots of annealing. The gas holder is great, so nice to have it right on my bench. The torch head is easy to ignite and to adjust the flame. Being able to turn the gas off at the top of the holder gives me peace of mind as well.

Don't chew on the business end.
I wanted one of these forever, but I didn't want to pay the price. I finally caught this on sale, and I really do like it. I wish I'd found a sale earlier. It functions like a handheld torch lighter that doesn't have to be refilled or purged, but with the ability to produce as small of a flame or a longer, stronger one. It directs and condenses the flame very well, keeping it tight and hot.

Great value for money, but missing some features
Seems like a great tool. Here are my pros and cons. PROS: - very nice flame tip - great ergonomics. It just fits in my hand. Very functional - easy to operate and fast to set up - hole for the tool in the base is made in a way that stops tool from rotating freely. I like this - heat output is based on the gas you feed it and by adjusting the knob - It can also operate with EU Propane butane bottles (you have to have gas US to EU adapter) CONS: - There is no handle that would allow me to grab "the whole set-up" with one hand and move it. I think it's kind of obvious from the pictures, but I did not realize until the first time I had to move it. It is small and light weighted, but you need two hands to move it. - After a long operation, I do not feel comfortable to just slide it into the hole in the base. Even if it's reinforced with metal, it would surely melt after some time. Overall I think this is great value for money. To fix most cons, I designed and 3D printed holder which make this tool 5/5, but since I had to put in my work best I can give is 4/5. Holder can be found on printables. Just search "Bernzomatic Firepoint carry stand and adapter".

It's worth the money!!!
I actually bought this one for someone else, after using one when I started learning Silversmithing. The class I took wasn't able to complete our project because the butane torches at the clubhouse didn't produce enough heat. This is so much better than the little butane torches because you don't have to try & refill (most of the time losing half the fuel). Just put a new canister in the base (which lasts a long time) & twist it on! Nice adjustable flame and it's easy to maneuver (because you aren't holding the canister)! It will melt very small amounts of gold, silver, brass & copper but if you want to be able to melt more than about 0.5-1oz get something hotter (like an oxy/propane little torch with a rosebud tip). Don't have to worry about melting anything on the work bench from setting down the hot tip, or getting the tip dirty, as the base has a metal lined area to hold the torch!

Great accuracy for the shop
This is such a great tool to have around the workshop. I first got it after seeing Adam Savage from Myth Busters talk about it and it has been very useful in the workshop. It can be screwed into a surface and holds the bottles very well. The tip has an adjustable flame and can also have a stay on feature when the trigger is pushed forward. It really helps with small accurate movements.

Great bit of kit. Feels very tough and well built. Used for 3D print finishing but also handy for other jobs including mechanic work on cars. Feels like it will last a lifetime. Adam Savage uses the same one.
