Superlux HD668B Headphones

first i have to explain a few things . i have many many years of experience in digital audio gaming pc and dj experience . in a nutshell im a headophile . so heres the review . for the money these headphones are a one single wired headset with phenominal drivers . the accuracy of the sound is in the high to medium range . to counteract this set your audio to flat ,yes the sound to flat . the sound equalises out after about one minute of tweaking . why a 5 star rating ? you cant buy a new product with this quality for less . i have tested all the ranges and found it to be good in all hertz . capable of distinguishing all sounds in all the ranges needed for the common use. the comparison is the AKG priced at 5 to 10 times more worldwide . these are not a copy but a semi open model unlike the semi open AKG they are less expensive and do the same thing . the weight is lighter and an unexpected surprise . there are certainly issues in finishing lsuch as they dont look perfectly formed (for the perfectionist . or do not have the softer ear cup that one can easily buy for a few pounds "in china delivered in a week ?" so with information like this in hand i personally like them the ear pressure is light and the ear cups completely surrounds medium sized ears . the top headrest not going all round the head simply relieves top pressure and furthermore makes them more comfortable . when fitting these they had 2 3.5mm jack cord 1 metre and 3 metre which simply attatched to the outside connector . in compare . for the money you are not going to get a nice fitting comfy headsets like this and wear it for long periods without actually hurting your exterior head ,however these are loud when you want them to be . i tried around 100 songs today from country to speedcore and yes they work . these are not cheap made they are low on price for quality you lucky people . so even if you buy and try you will not be disapointed for the money spent on them . happy listening and get the comfy cups too the make such a diference . the bass ? well here is a tip which will void the warranty but i highly suggest it remove the inner foam and replace with a simple template of toilet tissue for even better BASS. in my opinion a must for this particular model of headphones . and easily and super inexpensive to replace . to sum it up then ? brilliant the cord is thick not thin rubbish and an effective driver set making these a bargain for the money asked . so go get them and enjoy something a little different . enjoy .....

Right the 688bs are really good but!!! they are very harsh the highs can be very overwhelming, but that can be fixed easy by using a equalizer i use the one on my PC, which came with my asus xonar st sound card that has a built in headphone amp that is defiantly needed to drive these baby's,( BTW paid £19 pound for the sound card) So they can be made to sound really great, the bass and mid's are very good to my ears, so no issues the build quality is made from really tough plastics and solid metal wire construction they look like heavy duty made to last and that's what they feel like, the only other things i didn't like are the 2 prong head band cushions they can be a bit harsh after long periods, as they press onto your head making it a bit sore that can be fixed easy by bending them up to fit your head i have a big head BTW, one last thing is the ear pads are made from a synthetic materiel like a hard rigid plastic leather, that becomes uncomfortable after an hour or so of use, and make your ears sweat, that has to be my biggest gripe but can easily be fixed by buying the velour ear pads on eBay for £10 job done and now all this done i am very happy with the Superlux 688s and they are a joy to use!! and i use them everyday for music and PC gaming and voip i don't think you will find a better sounding Headset for the price they sound like much more expensive cans in the £100-150 range i e AKG's!!

It's been several hours since I first received these pair of headphones, and here I am with a first impressions sort of review. Build quality 3/5: I'll say these are decent for what you're paying for. These pair of headphones are made of some sort of plastic that doesn't exactly scream 'Reliability,' but they do seem to apparently do the job of holding the thing together. Time will tell whether the build quality will hold up, so I'll update in a year or 2 to see how they're doing... assuming they don't break before then. Sound Quality 4/5: Although it doesn't quite reach ATH-M50X's level, the HD668Bs are pretty much one of the best bang for the buck headphones that money can buy. For £38 the sound quality you are getting is an absolute steal for the price, and although some may say that the highs are a bit 'too defined' and too harsh, it's nothing a bit of equaliser software (or even equalising hardware) can't handle. Most computers today may already have their own equalising software, mine for example is the Realtek Audio Manager. Tweak a few settings, adjust how you want to hear the sound, and the result is a very pair of lovely sounding headphones. I'll be honest however, there's still a bit of a sharp edge even with equalisation, but I'll say that I doubt you'll be able to notice it unless you're an audiophile. Comfort 4/5: Usually I wear these headphones for 3-4 hours at a time and I'll have to say that they are truly very comfortable when you adjust the height of the headphones as well as the 'head rest' (those Audio-Technica esque wings). Yes, they are slightly adjustable, but I am very concerned whether the build quality will hold up with several height adjustments. You'll need quite a bit of force to adjust these headphones to suit you, and that's where I seem to doubt whether the quality of plastic used is sufficient enough for the lifespan of these headphones. The size of the cushions however, are very large, and although they're not made of the most spongy foam, they are quite soft to the touch and I can definitely say that these really do engulf your ears in soft leathery goodness. Whether it's real or fake doesn't concern me, but they do feel good on the skin even after 3-4 durations. I personally have large ears with abnormally large anti-helixes, so they're the part of the ear that receives most of the discomfort when it connects with the cushioned driver. These aren't exactly the deepest headphones on the market, but they are fairly deep for most people and is usually not an issue with the other people I have asked to try these on. The most important issue however, with me personally, is how my earlobes are squashed into my face when putting these on. Although not a concern to some people, I'll have to say that it's been a bit painful to me after longer durations. Overall, if you take sufficient breaks in between headphone sessions then I doubt you'll receive any discomfort with using these. Maybe take regular 10 minute breaks every hour or 2. Price 5/5: This is exactly the main reason why I bought them. I wanted a cheaper alternative to other major headphone brands such as Audio Technica, Sennheiser, Philips etc, and the HD668Bs stood out of the crowd with its amazing balance of sound quality, comfort, etc at an affordable price. Have I mentioned that it also includes a detachable cable? Although not truly detachable from the base of the headphones, rather, there's a sort of cord that extends outwards with a female end that you plug another cord into. It's still a detachable cable and therefore you reap the benefits of one, Including but not limited to: replacing the cord if it deteriorates or is accidentally damaged. Overall 4/5: These are a pair of fantastic headphones that I'd absolutely recommend to family and friends. The sound quality is absolutely astonishing when considering its £38 price tag (at the time of writing this review) and simple equalisation merely just spices things up to your taste. If you have a very low headphone budget but you still have standards, then these are the headphones to get.

Extremely good headphones for the price. Sound is nice and clear, no distortion or other problems. This is my second pair, where I gave my second one as a gift. The detachable cable is great and should be on more headphones. Be noted that the headphones leak sound and that you can hear everything around you. This is the nature of open back headphones, and not the fault of these headphones. The only things I do not like are that the head-band pad things are not great. They only have a limited amount of play, so if your head is on the larger side, they might not sit as comfortably. The overall construction is plastic and feels a bit flimsy, but I never had anything break over the 4 years I had them. The thin coated bands running along the top have cracked in some places, but that is only cosmetic damage. The ear-pads are very nice and soft at the start, but after having the headphones for about 4 years, they became quite hard; but not uncomfortable.

First of all, buy a set of replacement earpads with them. After about 10 minutes on my head, my ears were burning, I went for Brainwavz ROUND Replacement Memory Foam Earpads and I can now wear them all day comfortably. As to the sound, it is great. OK so I can't compare it against the high-end gear but it is better than every other device in my house by a long way. I do have them running through a Fiio E10K Headphone Amplifier and I love the sound. I know there are far better systems out there but for the £90 I spent on the two I think you'd be pushed to do better for the price and it's a great entry-level setup. What really lets these down though is the connection between the cable and the headphones. After reading all the reviews before buying I knew it was a weak point. As such, I tried reinforcing the connecting spur with sugru straight out of the box but after 2 months the left driver became intermittent. This is from only using them at my desk and hanging them on a hook when not in use. After taking them apart it is easy to see why they are failing here. The connection spur is wired using standard headphone wire (see photo) this is in a high flex area, the wire that is used only has a very thin coating of insulation that is easily warn if repeatedly bent. Fortunately, there is loads of space in there and I replaced the connector with a high-quality cable with proper insulation on the wires and a new 3.5mm connector. I have also extended the spur to about 6" to extend the flex area. They now sound as good as new. Why Superlux cheaped out on such an important part I don't know. The saving on the type of wire at manufacture can't outweigh the bad reviews of failing units. Without this unnecessary weak point, these would be unbeatable at this price.

First of all, these are great headphones for a budget, or if you want to find out the hype behind "audiophile" equipment like I did then this is a good gateway. These headphones by no means are real audiophile equipment, or particularly amazing at anything. They have a V-shaped sound signature which means they excel at music with highs in, but music which keeps in the mids is really not that great. They have a good amount of bass for open back headphones and at the volume I usually listen at they do not leak too much, though these are not headphones you should be wearing outside really. Overall I would say the sound is quite good after burning them in, when you consider the price, they are cheap but hit above their price really, just if you really want some good headphones be prepared to spend much more. Their build quality, to say the least, is bad. While I have no gripes with the nearly all plastic build, as they have not broken after almost a year of use, they are mostly plastic and their feel is just cheap. A lot of people replace the earpads that come too because the pleather material is not very good but I have not had as much issue with sweating or clammyness so it just depends on the person. They clamp quite hard depending on your head size but I have not had issue since day 1 using these, though the head rest 'wings' still are not exactly the most comfortable things in the world and I would recommend that you bend them back. They have a removeable cable which is a big plus if you are worried about a pet chewing through them, I didn't really factor this when buying them as I won't break it with abuse from bringing them out (I only use IEM's outside, and wouldn't wear these in public) but it's nice that you can do this as even on very high end equipment you don't always find it. I use these mainly for just listening to stuff on my computer which mainly centers around gaming, music and videos. They work fine for this and are good enough for that, because they're open back sound positioning in games is very good so I can recommend them for that, they work much better than most much more expensive "Gaming" headphones when paired with an external microphone. (Note: I never ran these through a proper DAC or AMP, I do not know how well these benefit from them but I doubt too much difference) In conclusion, I can definitely recommend these headphones, they have a nice V shaped sound which meets my music preferences and don't lose too much detail. In gaming they are ideal when paired with a cheap microphone as a budget solution versus a gaming headset. Get these if you want a decent sounding pair of cans with plenty of mods available, if you aren't on a budget look elsewhere at other real audiophile grade gear, you won't regret it when you hear the difference.

I've worn it for about 5 months now and despite it having a replaceable wire, it can still break right at the weak section between the extra wire attachment/ headphones themselves. I stopped hearing out from one ear, shortly after the whole thing broke. When I first got it, voices seemed to be very "blurred" out. There is no sharpness to these headphones. I had to set some equalization settings to negate some of the bad quality. For music on the other hand, it sounds quite nice. For gaming, these are AMAZING. Especially in games where you need to pay attention to noises around you; helped me get better awareness. During the 5 months I wore this thing, it didn't stop being uncomfortable. There are no "adjustable" bits on these pair of headphones, so if your head is big like mine it continues to press you at the same intensity. Often while playing games or watching videos, while in downtime I would slightly move the headphones off my ears to ease of a bit of the pressure, before putting them back on to continue. Honestly, I've had cheap £5 headphoens in the past, and they felt infinitely more comfortable than this. The parts that go over your ear are not likely to cover the whole ear, the thing really just presses your head together really tight (from the ears especially, and from the 2 pads at the top), it gives me headaches. Honestly I should have switched headphones sooner, but I was keeping them in the hopes that the thing would adjust to my head + the whole "a wire breaks" scenario woudl be avoided by the replaceable wires. I'm very dissapointed in the quality of the headphones itself. The delivery/ presentation was great on the other hand, and the use of it in gaming was extremely good. But I wouldn't get these headphones if you have a larger than normal head.

Don't often leave reviews but the Superlux HD668B is worthy of comment. I am a home listener mainly using amp with cd player and vintage record deck with now and again computer and iPod. The Superlux HD668B's are right for my ears and light on my head, as very good indeed and after a few hours break in , sing like a bird.:- ;- 1) Comfortable, can wear for long periods without as problem, even with the leatherette ear pads and head band spacers. 2) Appearance is fine with me as the phones are not industrial grade and bought for the sound at a reasonable price The build quality is very fair and robust, not to wear as a fashion accessory outside. 3) The provision of a metre and 3 metre plug in cable to the head phone, is a useful option. 4) Sound is very clear and concise, I like the upper highs and mids with good natural bass, but not boomy or muddy to mask the music.. 5) The treble is distinctive and can be shill, until break in or at high volumes, but the stereo separation and sound stage is very good , overall the sound is as good, if not better than phones costing a lot more. 6) Sound leakage is apparent when volume of connecting device is increased and as a don't have any volume cranked to deafness or ear damage levels, the sound leakage on these semi open phones is not a problem or to others . 7) Many users will be on computer and iPod or iPhone, the headphones are able to handle, giving a good a realistic sound as driven, picking out every instrument and note and voice range,, using equalisation to adjust highs is another benefit of getting the right sound to suit the Superlux drivers for coming into their own.. . In summary, my other headphones are Sennheiser 205 and Goldring DR50's, these are good but the Superlux are better, bearing in mind the cost.

Un casque impressionnant pour le prix. Un très bon son, clair et précis. La qualité du châssis est honnêtement assez correcte pour ce prix, même si elle laisse a désirer. Un très bon achat pour profiter de bon son, sans avoir a trop débourser.

These are the underdog of headphones! I have never heard music the way i heard on these headphones and that's when i actually understood that music is really complex and deep. It's not just about the bass. It's about how all the instruments come together with the right amount of bass,treble and mids and create that perfect balance and harmony. I stopped chasing bass after listening to these headphones. About the headphone sound quality: 1. They are not for bass heads 2. Super awesome sound-stage(Google that if you don't know what that means) 3. Really Really Really crystal clear ( Maybe a bit too clear for some people) The treble would be a bit sparkly for some people and it needs some time to getting used to. 4. GETTING TO THE BASS!!! - Well they aren't bass monsters, but what they are, are great awesome bass headphones where you wont see that the sound gets muffled when the drums or lows hit. Everything is so clear even when the bass hits. This is something you don't find in cheap headphones. Now i can only explain to a certain point about the sound. So if you are not looking for head thumping bass and looking out more for the most accurate sound on a budget and definitely audiophile sound quality, this is one of the top ones to consider!
