Good Stick - not USB Compliant
This seems to be *the* z-wave stick to use with the likes of OpenHAB (as I am doing) - and it seems to work very well. Devices seem to be found easily, and it controls them nicely. I haven't tried, but you can pull out the stick, carry it to a device and pair it before returning the device to the server. I'm told this form of pairing is less secure, but would definitely help out with non-portable devices. Starting pairing by more traditional means seems to work just fine. As far as all this goes, I'm very happy and would recommend. My big gripe with this stick is that it's not USB compliant (googling shows up lots of people having the same issues, and some diagnosing the stick's behaviour). It works fine with a Raspberry Pi 3 because the USB chip in the Rpi3 isn't terribly strict. In a Raspberry Pi 4 though, putting this stick in does nothing at all - the Pi doesn't "see" it at all. To make it work you'll need a cheap USB hub which (hopefully) doesn't have a strict chip in it. This stick isn't cheap, but budget an extra fiver on top for a suitable hub.

Be careful, this is not the Gen5+
The product description might be misleading (at least it misled me - shame on me). The product is called the "... Gen5, Z-Stick Z-Wave Plus USB ...", which is not to be confused with the Gen5+.(I have only just received delivery, and have not yet tried connecting it, so I have limited information to share in my review thus far. But I did want to warn other potential buyers , as I was disappointed to find out that I had ordered a Gen5 and not the Gen5+.)

Big and Proud Z-Wave Controller Adapter Stick.
Apple Mac based solution for home automation appeared like the logical option since I had two Mac servers that are on 24/7. This Z-Stick from Aeon Labs converted my Apple Mac to an ultra stable, ultra fast, home automation server. Even if I run scripts and have many inter-related devices with complex dependencies, it still does not slow the server down. This z-wave is Gen5 meaning, it is the improved version to the previous stick from Aeon. So far I like all Aeon z-wave products. Initially I tried HS3 from Homeseer as the controlling app or software on the older Windows machine. I soon realised that the Unix based Apple Mac OS Sierra is more stable, never crashing or requiring a restart for months on end. Major updates require a restart about 3 times in a year! That's all. So I went with Indigo Pro and that software, bought from Vesternet (UK home automation shop), has been the best buy so far in my home automation.......EDIT 02/12/2018......This continues to work seamlessly. It works with Indigo Pro very harmoniously as if they were peas in a pod. Plug, play and forget. Never ever needed any tinkering. Just works to the point I forgot that it existed until I stumbled upon my own review from before!

Easily usable workhorse - the gateway to my Z-Wave
Bought to replace a black early version. I use HomeSeer (lovely open ended system) but couldn't transfer my devices easily so ended up resetting and including piecemeal - that was fine. Love the fact that I don't have to unplug the stick to include and being a later generation means it has better capabilities to work with modern devices complete with secure encryption.Odd/Downside it seems very sensitive to position, it sits on top of a PC case and at the front it won't see and Aeotec 6-in-1 in the garage, put it at the back and up she comes! Maybe that will improve as I add more nodes, who knows/Stopping it blinking like a Christmas tree took some finding too!

Great!! Local control :)
Working perfectly in Home Assistant. It was hard to set up and make it appear in my docker instance but it's working fully now and much, much better than that terrible Samsung SmartThings, plus it's running locally so I never have to worry about Samsung's servers going down. Not much to say, it's a zwave stick, works with homeassistant.

Just plain did not work
Oooh, pretty colours when you plug it in. It gets detected by my RasPi 4, and devices appear in /devHOWEVERNo documentation, rather daft. tried everything, looking online and following instructions, alas nothing would pair. Sent back to Amazon as faulty.

Neat and cost effective alternative to big-brand z-wave controllers
I'm gradually replacing an ageing X-10 system with z-wave and needed a controller to interface with openHAB running on a PC. This fits the bill perfectly and even works passed through to a windows VM on a Linux server. It needs to be unplugged and brought to z-wave devices in order to pair with them but this is a good thing as you don't need 2 people to press buttons. The only minor niggle I have is that when plugged in to a computer, the light ring is constantly flashing and changing colours. It's a very minor point but it wouldn't be suitable for use in, say, a TV room where users might like to watch in darkness.Had no trouble pairing with a FOXX Project Z-Wave Smart Switch / Plug and a Z-Wave TKB Home Dimmer with Split Switch Rocker, TKB _ TZ65 D . Integrates with openHAB perfectly.

Not cheap but rightly so, a very reliable Z-Wave tranceiver
I purchased the AEON S-Stick to go inside my home automation setup which is located outside in a waterproof enclosure housing a Raspberry Pi 3b and various USB tranceivers. I'd initially avoided Z-Wave as they are considerably more expensive than generic 433/868mhz products, but as I found out, there's a very good reason for that. The Z-Wave device is much more stable/reliable than the 433mhz kit I am running - in the time I've had it installed, it has not skipped a beat and coupled with a Z-Wave window/door contact ( KAIPULEK Wireless Z-Wave Plus Door/Window Sensor - Compatible with 500 Series - White ) helps to protect a remote area of my property. Very easy to install and configure with Domoticz on the Raspberry Pi.
