Bird Art: Drawing birds using graphite & coloured pencils

Alan is an accomplished bird artist using coloured pencils. A lovely book showing Alan's work and process. It's a shame it's now out of print. Would recommend.

This book is brilliant. Alan Woollett gives information on how to capture your subject, how to trace, what equipment you need , which is pretty minimal considering the quality of the final work, and many useful tips. For the projects he lists all of the colours he uses, how and where to use them, and also provides lots of information about the backgrounds too, so it isnt solely about birds. Its a book I would happily recommend to anyone interested in using coloured pencils and wanting to learn more, but its also an interesting book to just sit and read and marvel at the beautiful artwork Alan produces. I have a fair few co!oured pencil books but this is one of my favourites - and at a great price too.

Beautiful book, clear advice and examples

I have read many books and magazines on the topic of birds in coloured pencil, but I have never read one like this. The author goes into detail about the topic but still keeps it easy to understand and keeps you hungry to read more.

I've waited for alan to produce a book for a long time and I can say it was most definitely worth the wait . There is so much useful information in this book from perspectives , cropping of photos , use of colour and how to apply it , also identifying with alan and his thought process before he puts pencil to paper . I have learnt a lot and will continue to refer back to this book over time .Although the book is about bird art It is useful for artists drawing any subject not just birds as you can use the techniques with anything you wish to learn to draw .A must buy for any artist using coloured pencil or graphite ,aspiring to learn how to achieve realistic artworks . I enjoy looking at this book but have found it quite tricky to use as a reference book. I really wanted to see how feathers were drawn in close detail as well as other techniques. However, the artist's work is beautiful and something to aspire to. I found that the drawings gave more of a suggestion of detail which is not really what I wanted.

Tiene magníficos dibujos e ilustraciones, Allan Woollett es un gran artista no le doy 5 estrellas porque el libro es usado y no está al 100% en buen estado, aún así lo recomiendo.

The artist has done a fabulous job doing this book highly recommend it to any one interested in doing bird art.

Pour qui souhaite dessiner des oiseaux au graphite et au crayon de couleur, il n'y a tout simplement pas mieux. Images magnifiques, texte instructif et particulièrement intéressant. Le top.Par contre, j'en ai assez de recevoir des articles manifestement préalablement retournés et insuffisamment vérifiés : l'une des pages de ce livre a été aimablement froissée par un acheteur aussi grossier qu'inattentif, et Amazon ne s'en est même pas rendu compte. Je n'ai pas demandé de remplacement car la destruction de cet exemplaire me semble totalement anti-écologique mais je suis extrêmement mécontent.
