A boyhood to manhood guide – becoming the best version of yourself
Author Jamie Myers offers another excellent ‘life guide’ for boys – an intelligent, resourceful, enlightened and easily accessible list of attributes worthy of attention to pre-teenagers – and beyond. Each of the 101 items listed is followed by a review section that helps solidify the author’s advice. For example, ‘Whenever you get to know yourself, it is important to work through what normal means for you and how your definition of normal changes with time and situations…the definition of normal is a moving target, and most people are too focused on themselves anyway. So, find people that match your normal and stay focused on your life, even when you feel a bit odd.’ In that user-friendly fashion, the topics discussed include you are normal, discover your values (values relate to life experiences), things change/you change (flexibility, embrace every moment for what it is), lead with respect (a form of acceptance), accept and understand your body, healthy eating, be active, the need for sleep, embrace mental health, self care (physical, mental, spiritual), the importance of school, getting organized, develop a growth mindset (positive self talk, intelligence can be developed), hard work means more than talent, relationships to parents, siblings, grandparents, friends, become involved in community, and practical skills such as fishing, camping, using a compass, tying knots, and building a fire. Truly, these are important things to know – a valuable primer for young lads. Recommended

Great book for tweens
My 11 year old found some useful info for current situations as well as knowledge about things that are to come in the not too distant future. Not too in depth, but enough to give them a heads up. Perfect for tweens.

I read part of the book to make sure it was appropriate for my grandchildren.
As with many things these days, parents really have to read and watch what the children are being subjected to. I ordered this book as simple reading for my grandsons, but made sure I read part of several subjects to make sure it didn't teach anything that went against our religion. I was very happy to see the parts I read were age appropriate and didn't seem to speak against things we are teaching the boys. I found it easy to read for most 4th graders and up. Good things for boys to know, some that parents sometimes assume they already should know. One interesting point I caught was how the author suggested that school is a boys first job. It is their 'job' to do their very best at this job. It will teach them things like the importance of getting along with siblings, doing chores doesn't mean you need to get paid - it's part of being a family where everyone has a job and contributes to make things easier for each member.

Great for young men

Its casual, conversational tone ensures that the advice resonates well with its teenage audience, striking the right balance between being informative and approachable.Though packed with valuable insights, the book could benefit from a more in-depth discussion on certain contemporary issues faced by teenagers today. Item arrived neatly packaged, and was as described . I'm satisfied with this purchase. The book is solid, and not cheaply made at all. I purchased this for my 10 and 8 year old sons.

Not as impressed as I was hoping to be.
Read this book 1st before letting my 12 year old read it. It touches base with a little bit of everything. I wouldn't say it was eye opening information though. I had a couple of the pages fall out that weren't binded with the rest of the book. The author wraps the book up with wilderness survival like how to build a fire, different style knots to make, how tofish.

Good for tweeners
Growing up I had the female version for myself so I purchased this one for my stepson who is 10. Idk if he read it yet but I will definitely have him look at it when he starts getting question-y
