Effective and Easy
Nothing will ever beat a good whetstone. The problem with whetstones, however, is that they take a lot of practice to be able to effectively use. Maintaining a proper angle is tough to do by feel. This system solves this problem, and it couldn't be easier to use. The unit is simple--it's just two parts: a magnetic angle block and a sharpening roller. Here's how they work. The angle block is cut for two angles,15 degrees and 20 degrees. Each have a silicone-padded magnet which will hold your blade in place without scratching it. The angle you need depends on the intended use of the knife: kitchen knives, fillet knives, or blades meant for fine cutting generally need the 15 degrees side of the block; outdoor knives, pocket knives, and blades which are meant for heavy-duty use generally need the 20 degrees side. Whichever side you use, the practice is the same--attach your blade cutting-side-up, make sure the edge is above the angle block, and you're ready to rock. Now comes the roller assembly. About the size of your average Yahtzee dice cup, each end has a different grit. For really dull knives or knives with an uneven edge, you'll want to use the course grit and spend time with it until your knife has a good consistent edge. No need to apply much pressure--just roll the sharpener along the edge and let the grinding pad do its thing. Once that's done, spin the sharpening roller around and polish your new edge. If your blade is only beveled on one side, that's the side you want to present to the roller's grinders. If the blade is beveled on both sides, you'll want to reverse the blade on your angle block and do them both. You're going to wind up with a very sharp knife. This unit has a very high-quality build. The rollers are smooth, and the grinding pads are consistent. Unlike using a grinding wheel, you're not going to generate enough heat to destroy the temper on your blade: your edge will hold as long as the quality of your blades will allow. The grinders are also replaceable, meaning there's no reason you won't get decades of good use out of this. Sure, it's a bit pricey--but this is an instance where you really do get what you pay for. Highly recommended!

If you’re serious about cooking but don’t want to spend a lot of time learning how to sharpen and spend time sharpening your knives, buy this now. It made my knives a couple of levels sharper instantly. It was so easy to learn and the product is of the highest quality.

The Real Deal!
I bought this for my father for Father's Day and he loves it. He likes to sharpen his knives pretty often on this rectangular stone so he has to angle the knife manually which can make a big difference on how well the knife is sharpened or not. However, he has a thing for Chinese made products. He does not like buying them if he help it. So when I saw that this was made in Germany, I jumped on it and bought it. It was pretty pricey but the reviews said this was a high quality product and I noticed that anything made in Germany usually is so I didn't hesitate. He was so happy with it and said now he can sharpen knives much faster and it does all the work for him. The angles are all preset for him so he doesn't have to manually guess the angle and hope its correct. I'm not really into sharpening knives but it seemed like there were several options on how you can go about sharpening the knife depending on what kind of knife you are sharpening. Anyway, as long as he loves it that's all that mattered to me. I highly recommend this item if you want a good quality knife sharpener. It seems like this product will hold up for a very long time because of the quality. Hope this review helps you out and thanks for reading!!!

Great product, high price point
Super easy to use and does sharpen knives to hair-splitting sharpness. I would strongly recommend this product for its ease of use, especially compared to something like a whetstone. However, this product falls a bit short when it comes to knives with beveled handles, as the grind surface will knock against and potentially scratch the beveled section. Also, for being a chunk of wood with 2 grind surfaces on each end, the HORL is surprisingly expensive. But when it works, it works great, and feels high quality in the hand.

Easy to use and works great
I like it. I don't know if I'd say it produces "razor sharp" edges, but they're plenty good enough to slice ripe tomatoes or anything else I'm cooking. I have found best results using the 15 degree edges (some Zwilling and some Victorinox... mid-level knives at best). And best to give it a couple minutes at least on each edge first time around. I'm sure other methods might produce better results, but this is easy, quick, requires no skill, and works great.

Seriously the only knife sharpener you will ever need!!
Absolutely the knife sharpener everyone needs! I am not an affiliate or paid for reviews, I am a chef and it’s by far the best sharpener I have. I’ve already bought 6, one for me and the rest as gifts. Don’t waste your money on any other roller sharpener brand. Horl is the one you should get. I’m blown away at how easy it is to use. No set-up, just grab it and away you go. For maintained knoves it only takes a few min and you are back to work with a sharp blade. If you cook you need this!

Quickly and easily makes my knives sharper than they’ve ever been!
I’m not a knife-sharpening expert or fanatic, but I like my kitchen knives to be sharp. I’ve had a couple of other sharpeners, but I was never able to get my knives consistently as sharp as I wanted them. However, the HORL 3 Cruise was different from any sharpener I’ve ever used. The first thing I noticed is how easy it is to use. You place the block that holds the knife on a surface like an old cutting board, then move the knife near it and the strong magnets grab it and hold it firmly in place. You have an easy choice between either a 20 or 15 degree angle so you can get exactly the sharpening angle you want. Then you grab the roller and gently roll the grinder edge against the knife blade. Once you have the edge as sharp as you want (the instructions give a nice tip on how you can tell), you flip the roller and use the stainless steel side to smooth the edge. The magnetic block and the roller are both easy to hold and quite comfortable to use. They’re also made of plastic that was in or was destined for the ocean, so it’s a nice ecological touch, too. They feel as if they will also be very durable. This sharpener works very well, and it’s very quick. I was able to put an accurate 15 degree angle on 6 knives in about 15 minutes. My knives are sharper than they’ve ever been, it was easier to get them that way than anything I’ve ever used…and the sharpener cost quite a bit less than other sharpeners that didn’t work as well. I’m glad I got this, quite satisfied with my choice.
