Excellent, does what I need it too, backs up all my music, photos, documents etc. Plenty of storage too. It’s easy to use, lightweight and like my previous cheaper model (which started making clicking noises) it’s very quiet and does sound like a plane taking off.

I bought two of these, both 2TB, for use as backup drives for my main PC. So far I'm pretty impressed! Just for clarity - these are mechanical hard disk drives (HDD) as opposed to solid state drives (SSD). LaCie sell both versions in the Rugged mini range, but the 2TB SSD versions are considerably more expensive. For my needs, i.e. a long term back-up that will sit in a drawer, the HDD version was the best option. The drives are shock resistant, pressure resistant and rain resistant, coming with the distinctive orange bumper case. They are small is size and look smart with the silver/orange colour combo. These are great drives for throwing in your backpack (not that I'll be doing much of that). The drives comes with a connecting cable - in this case a USB 3.0 Micro-B (on the HDD) going to a USB-C on the PC. OK, I'd have preferred USB-C at each end, but no big deal. There's a distinctive LED light on the drive when it's running, so no issue of accidentally unplugging whilst the PC is accessing it. The drives come formatted as exFAT (readable by PC and MAC). They have installed software that allows you to easily register the drive with LaCie (actually Seagate who own LaCie). They come with a generous 3 year warranty and data recovery. I reformatted my drives to NTFS as I'm using them exclusively on PCs. I haven't done any geeky measures of speed - but would say they seem plenty fast to me! Final thought - the price for these seems to be very variable with Amazon. I've seen them advertised for around £90, then seen other listings with lower prices. Be assured, these came brand new, unopened, with cable and a full 3-year warranty direct from Amazon - don't hesitate to buy one is you see it in the £50 - £70 ball park.

Excellent drive with fast transfers, I was a bit surprised to see a usb-c connection, but i bought an adaptor and it connects to my PC without problems

This is my 2nd portable hard drive and seems like the best! Working absolutely fine, faster and password protected area is just wonderful. General formatting for Windows took around 7-8 minutes for entire 1TB but password protection encrypted area for 200GB formatting took around 3 hours; however it is one of best function which can be dismounted any time or can be configured to dismount if idle for whatever time you specify though normal area/unprotected area is always connected unless you disconnect it physically. When you first plug-in it will give you three option to format 1. Windows 2. Mac or 3. Lynux. Only limitation here is it won't allow you to partition the Hard Drive which is not a big deal as it can be resolved by making several folders however after the formatting is successfully done then it can be password protected for the size you want. In my case I did 200GB. This protected area is 256 bit encrypted which is very good I guess one of the best industry standard ensured security. By the way no one should make the whole of this hard drive password protected because in that case you cannot use or access this drive in every computer because to access this password protected are you need to run pr-eloaded .exe file which cannot be run unless you are administrator or Power user for that computer i.e. in offices computers are restricted so you cannot access restricted area and if the whole external hard drive is password protected than no meaning of portability . The unprotected area can be access anywhere you want as like any other USB Drive. I am using USB 2.00 though it is absolutely faster i.e. selected whole of 18 GB of documents which transferred around 15 minutes in one go and very quiet, no noise at all. Do hope and pray that price of this product would come down and very soon the company would make 5 TB in the same physical size. Hope it would last long. I would highly recommend this product, without any question you can buy it.

Great price - I bought this to attach to my WIIM amp so that I didn't have to wirelessly stream my music library to it from my NAS drive. It's small & quiet and performs well, though I did have to attach it to a powered USB hub as my amp didn't supply enough power through the USB socket to run it. One other thing to note - the supplied USB connector is USB-C, so you'll need to buy a USB-A to USB-C adapter if you intend to attach it to devices with older USB-A sockets. It's been running flawlessly since installed and I'm delighted with it. No more wireless drop-outs streaming to my amp now that all my music is permanently attached to it!

EDIT: DOESN'T WORK. Connected to PC fine to initially move some files over then started repeatedly dis/reconnecting until it stopped connecting. A friend had recommended Seagate so I'm disappointed with this product and that the marketing mis-sells what you actually receive. Will be returning. ORIGINAL: Bought a 2TB rugged mini. The USB-C cable was a surprise so have had to order an adaptor. I haven't used it yet. 2 star assuming it otherwise actually works. I saw a picture with an orange "cap" to protect the port-end and reviews complaining that the cap wasn't connected to the main unit, but this cap was missing when delivered. Amazon were unhelpful as they could only offer a return+refund, not a spare part. They said they'd give me the seller's details as there's no option to contact them from Order History, but literally only directed me to the Order History. I contacted Seagate separately and they also said they can't do anything to help. I'll just have to go without, so won't be able to take this outside of the house. Fortunately hopefully not too big an issue for me personally but I imagine this will negatively impact usage for most people interested in "rugged" options.

This is a great portable external drive, especially for those who are on the move. The transfer speed is decent, and the outer case is very sturdy. I highly recommend this
