This is excellent quality. I installed it as a replacement for a Yale 77 which has a bolt made of flimsy pot metal and was getting forced on a regular basis - the Cisa is much better quality and much beefier.The design is a little idiosyncratic, but that is Italian engineering for you! The lock's bolt is under constant light spring pressure into the door post but once it is locked, it is also under pressure of a much stronger spring AWAY from the door post. The door is opened either by operating the electro-magnetic release or the red button on the lock itself, either of which frees the strong spring which then slams the bolt back into the lock case with a loud smack. When the door closes, the lock is re-cocked by the smaller bolt riding against a roller in the strike case. A little eccentric, but it makes for a very positive unlocking action which is completely independent of the electricity supply.Unusually, the electro-magnetic latch is inside the lock rather than on the strike side, and this complicates the wiring. The sloppy way to do this uses a flexible connection on the hinge side and then crosses the door to the lock. It is much neater to use a set of spring-loaded contacts and cross the gap on the lock side. Cisa has just the thing for this - their 06510 Current Transfer Unit which is a well-kept secret so remember where you heard it first. I chiselled mine into the door post and the open edge of the door, a couple of inches below the lock. If you do it right, all you will see is half an inch of cable where it enters the bottom of the lock case.The lock has not yet had a good work-out but I expect it to perform well. My main concern is about the spring-loaded contacts which flex the wires about 1/4in, every time the door opens. We shall have to wait and see how this holds out.Update 5 December 2015: The lock has now had a thorough work-out and it is still performing without any faults. It has never broken down and the local riff-raff has not managed to force it, something that happened frequently with the cheapo Yale rimlock that I had previously. The spring-loaded contacts in the door have caused no problems either. This lock is the dog's bollocks and I have a spare in stock for my next house.

Perfect replacement for the old one which was over 15 years old.It has a removable pin to make the closing action softer on lighter wood doors.

The best feature of the lock is that the mechanism is simple and robust, albeit esthetically somewhat ugly. It appears it will be reliable and easy to maintain, adjust and fix if it develops a fault in future.It was relatively easy to install once all the parts were carefully examined, however the included install documentation is poor lackingdetail, positioning profiling for the lock or stay or any information whatsoever on how to fit the cylinder such as hole diameter and placement, plate direction or alignment or on cutting the two bolts or rod to the required lengths.As the lock back casing was not moulded to fit totally flat to the door surface once positioned over the cylinder plate it was possible when tightening the four corner mounting screws to slightly bend the casing preventing the release mechanism working, however this was easily corrected by loosening the screws sufficiently.Have not tested the electronic release yet but the mechanical release button and key operation both work reliably.In regard to the electronic release a significant frustration is that neither Cisa with the lock documentation nor Amazon include any recommended available PSU/transformer or relay parts to combine with the lock nor hidden or external hinge power cable routing parts, all of which are required if the electronic release is to be operated.

If you want a dead locking front door lock which cannot be locked by a key , this is the major choice. I have several and eventually with very hard use they wear out. Just go out and buy another.

I found this to be invaluable as I was able to change just the outer part of the same broken lock on my front door.It was a simple job to swap the casing over.I thought it was a pity though that I couldn't have just bought the outer casing. I didn't need the rest of the expensive lock.

It stopped working properly after 1 month and a half. The button to open up from the inside, isn’t working. I was stuck inside for one day, people couldn’t go out to go to work. Absurd. I tried to contact the seller, I have been waiting for 4 days, not a word!

Only 3* as I bought this as a direct replacement for an older model and thought 10 minute job, 2hours later ...... They moved the key bar 10mm and as such I had to adjust a lot to save drilling a new lock hole in the gate !
