Broader coverage than expected
Don't be put off by the 'for Dummies' brand. They are not... This is a good omnibus of 6 (I think) books, that cover a wide range of topics in Javascript - including a significant chunk on Node.JS as well as several full-stack frameworks based upon the Node back-end technology (React, Vue, Svelte). This was a nice surprise as I was expecting mostly discussion on client-side Javascript. For those looking for something that introduces the full ecosystem of modern Javascript (i.e. server side as well as client-side) as well as some popular development tools, I highly recommend this. Especially at this price... It's definitely a book to dip into as a reference, rather than read cover-to-cover, but the omnibus nature does mean that the main sections are somewhat self-contained (though do build upon the prior sections). As with most (all?) '.. for Dummies' publications, this is easy to read and has good examples throughout. Some might be put off by the less formal tone though.

Fantastic book and great value!
I’m usually an O-Reilly reader, however I saw this book in my local library and was so impressed with the coverage of Javascript, Node, Express, Mongo that I went ahead and bought myself copy. The author has a really great writing style that is really easy to understand and provides a really good reading pace. I must confess that a ‘For Dummies’ book I wouldn’t have thought would be serious enough or the content too shallow, however this really is not the case with this book. As the saying goes, ‘don’t judge a book by its cover!’, best book purchase on this topic.

Amazing
I'm employed as a jr full stack dev. This book helps build on my foundation and is helping me achieve my sr status. Very easy to read and contains everything you need to know as for a full stack js dev role. But modern documentation is needed to stay up to date but that is standard for the role.

Great textbook.
Author is quite engaging and takes you through all sections with relaxed presentation. Best book so far, as I am studying alongside some online video courses. I strongly recommend it for any beginner in JavaScript.

Text too small. Not beginner friendly.
Had to send back. Too detailed. Not for beginners. Worst of all printed on light beige poor quality paper. Typography poor. Very difficult to read.

Easy to read
This book was purchased for my fiance as he's looking into changing career. It's written in a way that he can understand it better and explains everything to him a better way then courses he's found online. Highly recommend if this is something you are interested in.

Well Written and Great Value!
There are so many books on Javascript for beginners, it's hard to know which one to go with, and so many are ebooks. But I prefer a tangible book that I can hold in my hands, study at leisure, and read away from the computer. This is a very well-written introduction and includes extra chapters on React JS and Svelte etc. So many technical & coding books are overpriced and often less than 300 pages. This is a thick 800+ page tome for beginners which I highly recommend.

Not for Dummies!
I have some familiarity with computer programming, but I found this book, though well organised, not as helpful as I had hoped. The author has failed to appreciate how people learn - that is to say cumulatively, in stages. If I persevere, I may succeed in becoming expert in these languages but I certainly would have valued a more helpful book along the way.

Good book for beginners
I haven't read a technical book with such joy for a while. This book is definitely one of them. It will help you to build very solid knowledge on areas it touches. Highly recommended!

Bra att ha om man vill lära sig webbdesign.
Jag gillar att det är sju böcker i en ända bok. Men det är på väg att komma ut en ny bok html/css/javascript. Det är möjligt att jag borde ha väntat på den istället för den här boken.

I'd give it six stars if that were an option.
I bought this book because I want to use Google Apps Script, which is a Javascript-based tool, so some of the material in the book that is directed at website building is of little interest to me. However, the actual Javascript material is outstanding. Chris Minnick is a gifted teacher, as well as an experienced geek. He writes exceptionally well, introduces topics logically one at a time, and builds on each topic as he introduces the next one. I found myself reading parts of the book just for the pleasure of reading it! (No, he is not my cousin.) The book is a thorough primer on Javascript, including all the latest additions and improvements such as classes and 'thick arrow' syntax, and including many best practices. If you learn better from books than from videos -- as I do -- you will find this book thoroughly satisfying. It also has an excellent index, so makes a fine Javascript reference. There are very few how-to technical books that I recommend unreservedly, but this is certainly one.
