Ok : with cooling pad, there are two fans fitted under the main section of the table operated by a usb lead which plugs in to your laptop : without, guess what, no fans.Do you need the fans? - Generally I'd say no, but, if your laptop runs hot after some use, perhaps they may help. I personally, opted for a table with no fans. Very good other than the adjustments on the legs which most users say are problematic. Still worth buying as a good quality table

Will the central part hold a 17" laptop?
