A pricey necessity for some
I need to use some audio plugins and software on multiple computers but not at the same time, so I don't need multiple licences. Some software deals with this by authorising through online servers but that has its own issues, one of which is requiring an internet connection which isn't always an option in studios with computers that might not be networked for security or other reasons. This is on my keyring so it's always with me whenever I need to use that plugin. My primary use is for Izotope software and plugins. Nicely made, very small and works well. Seems a bit expensive but I presume this is also to cover the cost of running and updating the client software that goes with it.If you need it, you don't have much of a choice, so this review is redundant in many ways! However, you may be considering whether to just fix the licence to one computer or go for this option. I have to say that it was all simpler than I was expecting and is one of those things that 'just works'. I also have it for future compatible software.

Works as it should .
Works perfectly. An expensive necessity if you’re using ilok vsts.

Annoying that you need it… but comes in handy
iLok Cloud is a pain. Especially if you’re travelling often. Sadly some plugins (looking at you Universal Audio) don’t let you use iLok Machine-Based licensing, leaving this USB as the only other option. It does feel premium, as premium as a USB stick can, but it’s a hefty price. Ignoring that though, it genuinely makes the iLok experience much better. If you’re going between a PC and laptop, just take this stick along and there’s no drama. Moving all of my cloud licenses over to a USB felt cathartic, and it’s easy to do in iLok License Manager. Yeah it’s expensive, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind of not having to think about licensing. It can hold up to 1500 too so this is really a “buy it once and forget” purchase.

better than the old gen iLok - but overpriced
Compared to the old gen version made out of plastic, this seems a far more (physically) reliable product with a metal outer casing. Not to mention the much smaller size - I know some of us frequently carry these license keys around and it makes the process a lot easier, also with more space between dongles and hubs when inserted in a USB slot. I would note that the old iLok was slightly easier to grab and pull out due to its size - I recommend users put on a key ring in order to make it easier to pull out, the opening at the top should easily withstand the force. The main complaint is the price, it's just too expensive in my view for what it is/does, but I suppose most users (like me) have little or no choice...

An unfortunate necessity!!
I have a modest home studio set up and numerous V.S.T. Plugins that require Ilok authorisation. My Ilok 2 died recently so I was forced to buy a new one. They are pricey and it is annoying that most software requires only the Pace authorisation software which is free, but a couple of manufacturers insist that their software is placed on an actual Ilok dongle. However, the new type (Ilok 3) is very robust and has a larger storage capacity so fair enough I guess. A tip for you guys. If your current Ilok dies and you need to transfer your files to your hard drive, rather than pay Pace to do it for you, put your dead Ilok in the freezer, protected in a freezer bag for about half an hour. It will come to life for a brief period of time before it gasps its last breath. Might save you money. Returning a dead Ilok to have files transferred by Pace costs apporx $100!!

All AIR Licenses Installed.
After my iLok Blue V1 died with all of my AIR and Sonovox licenses on it, luckily, I had Zero Downtime on my Pace account. All my licenses were recovered, I transferred them to the new iLok in about an hour. All 78 Keys are on there now and running smoothly on my PC. A definite life saver for any musician with multiple iLok VST licenses.

Great little product
Putting everyone's general complaints about the concept of dongles to one side, this is actually a great little dongle. It has a robust construction and is extremely unobtrusive, and moving licences to this ilok from previous generation models is a very smooth process. Personally, I much prefer using this new ilok and keeping my machine offline to staying with an older ilok and using ilok cloud to cover all bases as I'd previously been doing.

Fine
A very begrudging purchase. I own certain software that only offer iLok Cloud or iLok 3 USB dongle support for license storing (no local computer license support, as is the majority when dealing with iLok-based licenses), and I do not like requiring a perpetual Internet connection in order to use the software I paid for. I don't particularly mind iLok as long as it doesn't get in my way, and I would rather not have had to buy this, but unfortunately that's not the world I (or UAD, evidently) live in. It's expensive, obtrusive, and occupies a USB port I'd rather have free or use for something less tedious. It, in a way, serves no other purpose than to ensure I feel ripped off and punished for legitimately purchasing software that use the platform. It does work, though, but I'm not keen.
