Q: Does the construction of the back of the guitar (laminate vs solid wood) or the type of wood itself make a significant difference to the sound?

The type of wood will make as much difference to the processed sound as it does to the natural sound. The better the wood, the better the sound. The Tonewood works by projecting the processed sound back through the body of the guitar using the guitar's body as the "amplifier". It will absolutely work and give you the desired effect, but the level of quality of the final sound can only be as good as the unprocessed sound of your guitar.

Q: Does it work with carbon fibre guitars?like Emerald

To use the Tonewood amp you need two things:- 1. The soundhole must be big enough to be able to put your hand inside the guitar, so that you can affix the X-bracket, and 2. The back of the guitar must be fairly flat in order to attach the amp. If you're in any doubt, message the guys at Tonewood - they'll get back to you pretty quickly. Hope this helps 👍

Q: Does it make a difference whether the guitar is right or left handed ?

I don't see that it would make a difference - the amp fits inside the guitar attached to the inside rear of the guitar - fiddly but worth the effort once you've got the settings fine tuned to avoid feedback etc. - I fitted inside right handed

Q: Might be a silly one but how many db does it add up to the original volume?

It is not a silly question - but without measuring equipment it's impossible to give you an honest answer. If you mean when using it in acoustic mode (using the guitar's body as the "amp"), rather than as a typical FX pedal through a real amp, then I can't give you an answer of that kind of precision. However, there is no question that the guitar is somewhat louder acoustically with the Tonewood than without (which isn't surprising since it adds the output of the pickup back into the body of the guitar which adds to the normal sound). You may find that this volume increase is enough to compete against your unamplified voice if you are playing and singing unamplified in a room. This can effect both your playing and singing style to compensate.
