Essential reading for anyone who breaks into a sweat at the mere mention of public speaking!
I run a charity in Sri Lanka (from the UK) and often required to give some sort of speech about a new project or evaluate progress to funders. My full time job is writing medical education materials for the pharmaceutical industry and I often have present and talk through new data to various teams... and to be honest, it's the part of both jobs that I hate the most. Imagining everyone naked just doesn't cut it! I can't sleep from about 2 nights before a presentation day. My stomach is in knots, I'm having hot flushes, dry mouth, racing heart - public speaking just isn't my forte, but something that is essential for both of these positions. So, when I came across this book, I was really interested because it talks about why people struggle with public speaking, and then builds on this with steps to help you master public speaking. Now, there is a ton of information in this book - it felt like a course, I was just so impressed! The first book really goes into why public speaking is so nerve wracking and it is really essential to read through and understand this as it provides a strong basis for the next section, which gives you the skills for public speaking. The depth provided by both parts of this book shows how well Derek understands this area and bonus tracks are just great and can really help you accelerate the process. The language used in the book was not overbearing, complicated or overwhelming. Often books written by specialists are written in a way to highlight how intelligent they are and make you feel like a bit of an idiot. I found this book really easy to read and digest and feel like I am on my way to being a more competent public speaker and even, dare I say it, enjoy the process!

Great Book for learning Public Speaking
This is a Fantastic book on public speaking and communicating without fear. After searching for books on the subject of public speaking and how to communicate more effectively I can say this is the best I have found. The author does a great job of explaining the mind and how to eliminate the common negative feelings that are associated with public speaking. The book also contains lots of practical exercises that you can do that will help improve your speaking skills. I learned a lot on what to do with my body when I’m presenting and how to program my mind so that I can be as confident and effective as possible when public speaking. After reading this book and applying the techniques that the author shares I found myself becoming much more confident when presenting and was able to captivate people’s attention much better then before reading the book. If your looking to become better at speaking and have fear when presenting I would highly Recommend reading this and using the techniques and exercises the author shares.

Highly useful
If you're terrified of public speaking, this book is a must have in any library. It is yet another excellent book by the author who clearly has a huge amount of experience and knowledge in this area. I loved the section on memory and how to recall things quickly, although I do keep visualising a gold radiator in all my scenarios now. It's well written and easy to understand with useful strategies to make public speaking almost fun. I highly recommend.
