Review from a 4th Grade Teacher- 10 stars!
Teachers- this is an amazing book. I cannot wait to use it as a mentor text. It has so many teaching points that I’m struggling to decide how to use it first.1) It has multiple layers. It can easily be used for close reading strategies. You’ll have to decide how deep to take it, depending on your students. *It has some dark points.*2) Authors craft- I think you could use this to teach every indicator (speaking for 4th grade). The font and style isn’t typical, which makes a great discussion point. It also includes an examples similes or metaphors- I can’t remember which because it’s at school.3) Vocabulary- many teaching points for using context clues. Several challenging words throughout the story, all with great context clues.4) inferences- tons!! Particularly with character’s motivations and traits and plot development. It’s also great for predicting because the whole book will have you wondering if Fox will be the bad guy or not and what will Bird decide to do.I suppose I should review the seller and not just the book. I don’t normally buy non-prime items, so it did seem like it took forever. It was shipped as promised- I’m just spoiled with Prime’s two day shipping. It arrived brand new and in perfect condition. Definitely worth the wait.If you buy the book and know of any other similar books, please comment!

Very thought provoking story
I bought this book because granddaughter loves foxes. This book is not what you think. It is really a lesson in being satisfied with what you have and knowing who to trust and of course perseverance in adversity. My 5 year old granddaughter actually loved it and seemed very touched by the story line. I had hesitated as I was reading, thinking it might be upsetting. She had me read it to her every night when I was visiting. It is deeply moving and has a real lesson that can be discussed by adults to their kids. I highly recommend it. As a teacher myself, I recommend it for elementary teachers to read to their classes.

Who says our children aren't capable of big thinking about big issues?
A modern-day fairy tale set in the outback of Australia, Fox, by Margaret Wild, is a stunning and provocative piece of children's literature. It describes the lives of Dog and Magpie, who survive the aftermath of a horrible forest fire that leaves both animals injured. They band together in friendship to help each other survive, and they are met by the mysterious and haunting Fox.Magpie's need for friendship is mitigated by her desire to fly again, but she does not trust Fox, who promises that riding on her back will be closer to flying than riding on Dog's back. After three appeals, Magpie gives in to her temptation, and Fox takes her on his back. Fox abandons her, and Magpie is left in the broiling desert to walk back home to Dog.This book presents deep and complex issues that will not only confront our children, but also ourselves. I am moved every time I read this book, and the points of discussion that can arise out of this book are boundless. If we expect and believe that our children can think and talk big about deep issues, then this book is a must-have.

Sweet book
My son’s teacher was doing a read-aloud, and he loved this so much he asked me to purchase it so we could read it at home as well. It’s such a sweet story, and I hope there will be a sequel one day :-)

Mysteriously Beautiful
This is a beautifully illustrated book. The text is in an unusual position on the page which adds to the mysterious allure of a story whose possible interpretations are many. This is a perfect mentor text for exploring theme, and could be used in classrooms from upper elementary to high school.

SIMPLY STUNNING AND AMAZING!!
Foxes have always held a fascination for me - not quite sure why, but I have always adored them - I seem to link them to my childhood somehow; whether this has anything to do with how often they would figure in Picture Story books, tales, fables and rhymes from those days, I am unsure, however; I purchased this book (being an adult of course) for the beautiful art it appeared to have as shown from its front cover. I also got a pleasant surprise, as I expected only a 'standard' sized book - the size of any ordinary novel - but for kids of course, however; what I received was a huge book that measures about 11 x 11 inches in size! The artwork in this is simply stunning - with lots of oranges, reds and browns which theme the colour of the Fox beautifully. I was also intrigued as to how many Awards this book had won - reading from the inside cover. These days I must confess that this type of thing does not impress me much, (given out like sweets usually) but this is worth them all, since I found this Picture Book utterly delightful! The story (though some may feel a little 'dark' for some children) has a good few lessons to learn from it, and is written in a 'script' format that is scattered throughout the pages/pictures - almost randomly, which makes it a joy to read as one has to turn the book this way and that to follow it.Having purchased this for its art only and suitably impressed, it was an added bonus to me when I actually found myself wanting to read the short story! I actually read it twice in succession, and I have to admit, this sort of thing would have delighted me as a child! It was simple, short and held great atmosphere. The story is about trust, loyalty, sympathy and love among three very different animals; a Dog, a Bird and a Fox, and as usual in these kinds of stories; the Fox is portrayed as the bad guy - but I found the tale rather sad and touching which almost moved me to tears! The only criticism I had with this otherwise perfect book in every other way, was that the art - though excellent, was a little confusing at the outset, as 'Dog' looks very much like the Fox - that is until the Fox enters the story, and then the Fox looks more like a Fox should, and then one realises that 'Dog' does actually look a little more like a Dog should too - but it isn't terribly clear in the first couple of pictures and is therefore misleading... The Dog's face is way too pointed, and the tail is like that of a Fox's 'brush', where I think the face/head should have been more 'square' and 'blunt' - and the tail somewhat thinner. However; these are small minuses, when all the other perfect beauty that this book holds is lumped together.I would recommend this to all kids of all ages - even adults too - both for the beautiful art and quality, and for anyone who adores Foxes. An amazing book!!

Beautiful and haunting
I read this book in a museum and loved it - I bought it so I could share with others. I was haunted by the amazing art and the beautiful disturbing story of love and betrayal. I'm an adult and not testing this out on children so don't know what they'd make of this atypical children's book.

Beautiful work of art
Beautifully crafted book with a lovely story. Although the size and format is part of its charm I do wish it was smaller so I could put it on the shelf properly rather than having to lie it down. Recommended.

A must have in all book collections.
A beautiful book with vibrant illustrations and a tale to keep you reading. I loved reading this and sharing it with my year 5 pupils as we looked at how foxes are portrayed across different literature.
