Can this be used for liqueurs as well?

this is used to filter the alcohol base before flavoring. So once filtered you can flavor to liqueurs yes. But you wouldn't want to flavor before filtering if that's what your asking.

can you use it for higher proof spirits?

The instructions say that the proof must be 100 or lower. We have run 110 through it and had great experiences.

Is the carbon activated?

Yes, activated. This filtration unit uses easily replaceable solid porous activated carbon filters specifically designed for the maximum purification of alcohol or water. The other replaceable is the soft paper endcap gaskets.

don't follow instructions

the black plastic neck don't fit the top container , warm it in the microwave and then it fits, don't put the washer on the top of the carbon, it won't filter spirit ,once sorted woks well
