Great Thermastat!!!!!
This Thermastat is the neatest Thermastat I have ever owned. I give it 5 stars because so far I love it!The only issue you may find that you do not have a c wire in your old Thermastat. As we did not have. So the quick install took about 3 hours because luckily my husband is an electrician so he ran a new wire from the thermostat to the furnace thus creating the c wire we didn't have. And it was up and running in seconds. Very nice product. And right now DTE is offering a $100 rebate if you purchase a thermostat I've $100. So I ended up getting this awesome Thermastat for $40!

Overall, very good
November 30, 2016Overall, it's fine although like all of these newer programmable thermostats, the only "new" features that 20-year-old programmable thermostats don't have is remote access & voice command. My only complaint is that Honeywell seems to have gone to great pains to hide the WiFi specifications, which are totally absent from the Specification Sheet as well as the Manual. The unit can only see 2.4GHz networks. That's not likely to be a problem, but its irritating that they hide this fact. (Makes one wonder what else they are hiding. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.)Like all IoT (Internet of Things) devices, for security purposes it should be behind a firewall and ideally should be on it's own VLAN with inter-LAN access turned off, so that it is isolated from all computers on the WiFi network. Being isolated from all computers on the WiFi network works fine (as long as the WiFi network it is on has Internet access) as the unit is designed so that it only communicates directly with Honeywell's servers anyway, and so the phone apps (& web interface) communicate with the unit only though Honeywell's servers. Honeywell also controls firmware updates, which will only occur if the unit has WiFi access.Update April 11 2018One concern I have after having used this for over a year & a half is that while I have the voice commands turned OFF 100% of the time, the unit is still always listening & processing everything it hears. I know this because it has a subtle bug in the software where it occasionally speaks saying it does not understand the voice command even though voice command is OFF. I'm not sure what in the conversation going on in the room triggers this behavior. But remember it's always listening, even when voice commands are turned off. If this behavior bothers you, probably you should buy the version without voice commands.

Gret Thermostat but Maybe Won't Update Firmware
I love this thermostat - very cool if it works ! I bought two. The first one is great but the second one will not update software which is supposed to happen automatically. I have contacted Honeywell 3 times (India) and they tried very hard to suggest fixes. Unfortunately, nothing worked. Finally Honeywell replaced the defective thermostat but the new one functions exactly the same. If you ask "What time is it", it will reply that the current version of firmware does not support this command. The other (first) thermostat has newer firmware that supports this command (and others - like weather). I believe Honeywell has a problem with firmware updates on the second thermostat if two or more thermostats are installed?

Easy to install with a little guidance from the telephone helpline, looks good, works well, especially with the app.... Voice activation is fun too. I only have 4 cables which seems to restrict operation a little... If it's on heat mode and you ask it to make it cooler... It can't do it by voice alone, you need to switch it to cool mode manually or through the app first... I may upgrade the wiring.... But it's so easy to work either manually or through the app it's hardly worth it... So not a high priority.

I keep hearing voices.
Convenient for controlling heat remotely. Voice command does not work very well and often picks up background noise as voice command. Voice was the reason for the purchase and its not all that. Not at all.

... you have to call India and deal with a HORRIBLE customer service person
BE WARNED - if there is an issue with this thermostat you have to call India and deal with a HORRIBLE customer service person. I was told to "go buy a voltage reader or borrow one from a friend"........I have to do this to tell them the voltage reading per each connector.....like I know how to do this. HORRIBLE customer service! It has been 4 months and I can only operate our thermostat on my phone since the screen is solid white and does not work on the actual unit.
