Modern Rock Guitar Soloing: Master Intermediate & Advanced Lead Guitar Concepts, Licks, Theory & Technique for Rock soloing & Improvisation Review: This book is a treasure trove for guitarists. - I wish more guitar tuition books were written and presented in this manner. Martin Miller and the fine folks at Guitar Vivo have put together a book I wish I had 10 years ago. This is not a lick book. This is not a book full of standalone exercises. Instead, Part 1 of this book takes on a guided tour through Martin Miller's thought process as he improvises. Why these note choices? Why did he choose to bend to this note instead of sliding (or just playing it)? Alternate picking? Legato? Hammer-on from nowhere? etc... Full solos are broken down, bar by bar. As you learn each solo at a slower tempo (backing tracks and video examples provided at multiple speeds, for free) I will know both what to play and why to play it. Then you can increase the tempo and build your technical facility. THEN, once you have mastered the Intermediate solos, there is an entirely different Advanced solo for each track. Again, you can start those at slower tempos, digging deep into the how and why of each bar, before speeding them up. Yes, you can learn the solos (and they are fantastic), but the detailed breakdowns are (to me) where the true value in this book resides. Part 2 acts as a repository of information and concepts to explore and use in your own way. They are presented as simple, small ideas and the reasoning/value behind each is outlined as well. I found this incredibly useful. Not having a concept tied to a specific exercise really opened up the possibilities for me. I found it easier to take a concept, incorporate it into my practice routine for a week, and see tangible results. I wasn't trying to force a particular lick or exercise into my playing. Rather, I was thinking conceptually and those ideas from Part 2 found a natural and organic way to show themselves in my playing. On top of all of that, the book comes with a link to FREE material--tracks at various tempos, video examples of each solo, and three Masterclass interviews with Martin. Type in the link as shown in your copy of the book and you'll go straight to the free download page. A wonderful addition! This an easy 5-star book to me. It is the closest thing I have seen to private lessons in book form in 25 years of playing/studying guitar. I hope Guitar Vivo continues publishing books in this format. And, I hope Martin Miller continues to create and share books like this one, to allow us a glimpse into his thought process. Review: Good course and tips - I liked this course and got some good tips out of it. Martin Miller's a great guitarist. Martin Miller knocked it out of the park!

Fantastic book for teaching intermediate electric guitar students.
What I like most about this book, as a guitar instructor, is how the licks here are tasty enough that I steal them for my own playing... quite often. These solos and exercises are crafted with impeccable taste. I'm a jazz guitarist by trade, so I very much enjoy how these "shred" solos and exercises have been thoughtfully composed by the author. Often, licks will have a pattern with some nuance in either articulation or melodic construction that makes it interesting. The provided videos are very professional and useful as I can typically prep for my lessons by grabbing the licks by ear by using the videos, then checking myself against the provided transcriptions in the book. I would highly recommend this for intermediate electric guitarists that can already do a little bit of lead work and need help getting to the next level, both in terms of facility and playing vocabulary. Teachers, you'll have a lot of fun learning these licks in your lesson prep! Great book!

Really useful content and the bonus material make for great practice tools. A Huge bargain!
I really like the structure of this book. Clearly defined sections for each concept. The audio/video resources included for free are of excellent quality and have proven to be very helpful in mastering each solo or concept. The author is a work-class guitarist and many of the line presented are unique and will work in a variety of musical situations. Highly recommended! Please note: If you copy the URL incorrectly from the book, the website takes you to an error page asking you to register for the website and pay for membership. Make sure you type or copy the URL perfectly, and you will find a wealth of inspiring, free practice materials that match the lessons.

Very Inspiring!!!
I received the book today and I am really impressed with the presentation, organization and most importantly the effectiveness of it! In about 10-15 min I was able to register for the bonus material and I was already learning the first lick, which is awesome (like everything Martin Miller does!). The tabs and video are really helpful. I wish Martin could have done the "slow part", even a bit slower, but it is ok, we can always reduce the speed of the video. Thanks for sharing a little bit of your knowledge and technique with this amazing book!

Martin Miller is a Genius
This method book is the most comprehensive and logically organized book I’ve ever used. There is no fluff, all information is relevant and perfectly laid out and displayed. Video files are easy to access and use. Great quality. This book has the newest techniques as modern guitar players are really taking things to the next level. In my opinion, coming from someone that’s been teaching guitar for over 30 years, Martin is the best player out there right now. And the fact that he’s sharing his knowledge is something every advanced player should take advantage of. The moment you think you know it all is when you stop growing. There is something for even the most proficient, professional players in this book.

Exactly what I needed as an intermediate/advanced guitarist looking to level up
I've been playing for about 16-17 years. I feel like I've been stuck in a plateau for several years in my playing as an "advanced intermediate player" - if I practice enough I can play almost any song, I can "shred", I know the modes, major/minor scales, etc.. but I don't feel like I have been able to put it all together to improvise and sound like what I want to sound like. My improvising sounds bland with random moments of tastefulness. After spending a few hours last night exploring the book I can already tell this is what I needed to bridge the gap between being a pretty good guitarist and a great guitarist. Thank you, Martin!

The book is really awesome. Full of easy to follow examples, hints and tips how to practice. It comes with a lot of free video and audio content! FREE! Who does that nowadays?! For me, who struggles sometimes reading and understanding measures, it’s a game changer. The book puts fun back to practice guitar. Thank you Luke and Martin.

Wow. I just started working from this book and immediately from the first lick I that tell this is going to be a killer advancement to my practice. If you’ve ever watched Martin Miller’s videos then you know he’s one of the most melodic, modern-technical guitarists around. I’m an intermediate/advanced player and I always worry that material I buy will not push me enough but this is definitely not the case here. It’s already got me thinking about the neck in a completely different way. It’s exactly what I need to get me out of the rut of playing stuff that impresses amateurs but never feeling like I’m doing anything out of the box. This is going to be a fun few months or maybe even a year of practice! I can’t wait to hear the improvement. Oh and the bonus digital materials are awesome too. You can see and hear every lick and track and download all the backing tracks for practice. My hat is off to you professor Miller!
