I've worn them on a wet dock and a boat deck and have not felt like I'd slip. I've also worn them during very light activity on a gym floor and I felt like I was on ice skates....My thought is that they do a good job on a wet surface, but that the bottom holds dust and such; making them slippery on smooth surfaces.

My 8 yo fits well into other crocs styles, but says these are too narrow. Any tennis shoe recommendations for super wide feet?

I wear a 3E-4E width! I wear a size 10, but due to my fat foot, I stepped it up to an 11 and have had no problems with comfort. I am fairly confident he will fit into these shoes. They are made out of rubber. They will stretch but still retain their shape. I love these shoes! When I go on cruises with my wife, these are a must have item. They function marvelously on water themed excursions (or any excursions) yet are formal enough for me to wear into the dining hall.

will these work well as water shoes?

I tried them as water shoes and the little piece of fabric on the heels gave me blisters once they got wet, not tight enough to prevent rubbing
