If you are just beginning with sharpening or a pro, you are going to need some sort of Strop Compound. Knife sharpeners will tell you that there are certain grits of compound that are better than others. And for every knife sharpener out there they all have their preferences. No matter what you may think, you will need something to prepare your strop. That is a given. The question is what is the "right" grit. The biggest issue? If you have multiple strop grits it is highly recommended that you have more than one strop. Cleaning each strop before or after use is extremely difficult or easy, and it is important to have a clean strop. It is critical for knife sharpening to use a strop grit. This particular brand is sufficient and does what it is meant to do. There are better grits out there, but you do not need to go extravagant to get grits to start with or until you are familiar with their purpose. Good starter blocks, good grit choices for someone starting with grits or even for professionals that are familiar with grits. Highly recommended.

I cut couple pieces of leather about 6x6 and glued them to some thin plywood, and have 2 stops, 1 fine, 1 very fine that fit right in my shaving kit.

Its green and white polishing compound. It works as green and white polishing compound. You can tell, because its green.... and white. Comes with a nice case to keep it clean and uncontaminated; which is honestly a huge problem I have with the big sticks. This amount will go bad before most people will use it all.

I work in a professional kitchen and have used these over the past two months on my strop. It isn’t anything less than advertised at a balanced price. Perfect for when cost matters and you need a razor-sharp edge for slicing tomatoes. It was a lot more brittle then other compounds I have used, I received one of them broken in half. I found that it layered on a lot better then compounds I have used in the past. I tended to over-apply with softer compounds, but with this compound, it’s easy to get a thin layer perfect for when you need your blade to Be the sharpest it can be. Whatever excess you do have will quickly become a layer that stays for more than a few uses. With other compounds, I found that they were easy to smudge away, this one stayed true throughout an eleven-hour day with several uses.

Both bars arrived broken in the package. Still usable, though.
