Great for rescue hens used to mash.
I was struggling with getting my three rescue girls to eat pellets; they must have been on mash before so I thought I would try this. They love it and their condition is starting to pick up after only a week on it. It is a bit more time consuming having to mix it up with warm water in the morning, but it's worth it as they are not wasting any and they are happier, healthier birds. I tried giving it to them dry but the wind blew it everywhere and they weren't keen.

Loved by my girls
My girls love the mash more than the pellets.

Twice as expensive
Good quality feed, however it's twice as expensive than from a farmers' supply shop. Normally only pay £7 for 25kg . Only in an emergency I think!

Dusty & finely milled, but OK if you add water
Very fine and dusty, but ok once water is added to make porridge. My free range Blackrock hens seem to like their porridge in the mornings and gobble it up.Only just started using so will update my review once they’ve been on it for a little while

A lot of people like the pellets because they create less mess. Mash looks like the crumb stage when making pastry etc. The benefit is it takes the chickens longer too eat so they are less likely to get bored.r people say they prefer because it keeps chickens occupied longer because it takes more to take on the same amount of nutrition they need. so it is your preference really what you want to clean use pellets or you want to keep the chickens occupied and not get bored in which case it is a Mash. I have to admit my chickens prefer the mash and I have tried both there not that impressed with the pellets. If so you can try a bit of each and see which ones you and your Chicken prefer. if you've got the chickens from someone I suggest that you ask them what they were feeding and carry on with that type of feed. If poss. There are minor differences between brands, but nothing major, Try an organic brand. Be aware there is chick crumb for the young and different food if you are raising them for meat. Otherwise look for layers,mash or pellet. Hope that helps"}}]}]}
