Remedios Varo: Science Fictions Hardcover – August 22, 2023

I gave this book a high score due primarily to the artist and her work. Having seen the works first hand in Chicago I can say no book can truly capture the magnificence of these works, but this comes as close as most are likely to get. Considering the rarity and affordability of books dedicated to her work, this is important. Hard bound, the most famous works are large enough to study the detail. The text is lengthy but informatve and gives insight into the artist's influences, most notably alchemy, pseudo sciences, occult, psychology and other emerging explanations of the workings of the universe. Her treatment of these mysteries is the point of the work and they are uniquely beautiful, surreal, original and well executed. The techniques employed are nearly worth a book in their own right. If you've ever wondered about the origin of birds, music or the origin of the Orinoco the answers are contained herein.

Remedios Varo is honored in this large book publication that goes with the exhibition entitled "Science Fictions" that originates from The Art Institute of Chicago. The writing is top level scholarship backed by details for each of the authors thesis presentation. The image reproductions are of the highest quality and the composition of the book is beyond beautiful!

Hi, Remedios Varo is a famous artist. And this book like so many other famous artists can become a collectible and be worth a lot more money than it is now. This is why when I received my first copy, I was very disappointed in how it was sent as the clear wrapping of it was torn and the book's corner was bent. Someone had just thrown it in the box without any protection for it. So I returned it and complained about the issue in my comments section for the reason to return. I received the second book and it was packed well enough so that the book didn't move around and it is in perfect condition. Don't settle for less on this book.

I am so very pleased with this gorgeous book! I am huge fan of her work and I consider it to be a privilege to own a copy! Love it!

very well researched of both Varo.s techniques and thought process. Great color,size-full page reproductions. Well worth getting for sure.

After some introductory material on Varo as an artist, including detailed discussions of her specialty techniques, book consists of several chapters relating to specific artwork. These chapters begin with a full page reproduction of the art, followed by detailed analysis of the piece. Book ends with a year-by- year chronology of Varo's life. Interspersed throuout the book are additional representations of Varo's artistic diversity. Book is excellent with easy to read font and beautiful high quality art.

AMAZING book! Incredible reproductions and insightful essays.While it is a monograph, it is also a deep-dive unto Varo's life and work, so yes, it does have an abundance of text. Personally, this is the book on Varo I've been waiting for.Get it cheap while you can!

Unusual layout, wonderful colors and interesting texts. Remedios Varo deserves this edition!
