A sweet, unique romance
This book was sweet, understated and enjoyable. What I found fascinating was that, although part of me thought there were a lot of descriptions of the minutiae of trade fairs, which ordinarily wouldn’t be my cup of tea, I also couldn’t put it down. Many times I found myself devouring chapter after chapter when I should have been asleep! The plotting was good and I loved the way it documented many years through a small “window” of a particular event at the same time every year. The main character’s struggle with mental health is thought provoking and heartbreaking in places, and through the lens of an annual event, we watch him change over many years. The author uses clever POV to leave the reader unsure of who is who in places, which is used to good effect. The missing star is because there are a few little imperfections (a few technical details that might not be clear to all and an occasional repeated description of the female main character), but I really enjoyed this book. Personally, I liked the ending a lot!I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
