HARUKA Sushi Rice, 1kg

Opened the box and one of the packs was only half full. Definitely not the weight it claims on the box.

The rice looks good quality, easy to cook, and good price for money. Could not see any damaged grains as this sometimes happens when we buy in bulk.

I’m tending to use Sushi rice as an alternative to long grain rice, as I prefer the flavour these days. It’s also more versatile than long grain. Good flavour, easy to cook and handle when it comes to sushi.

Sushi rice isn't really a thing....it's just short grain rice that becomes sushi rice when mixed with mirin and vinegar etc. Short grain rice is hard to find in the supermarket these days, pudding rice and risotto rice are slightly different. anyways this seems to be good quality, with a good texture and taste.

It's an ok sushi rice, quite sticky and absorbent. Not my preferred rice for sushi, as it gets too sticky when cooked in small amounts (1 cup dry rice). Even after rinsing it very well, it will still clump and harden shortly after it's been cooked. I will probably be using it for dishes like risotto or rice balls, and opt for a different brand for sushi rice.

I tried many sushi rices and this is the best one available right now. I have been buying it in asian shop years ago, where I tried mostly every rice available. - its very tasty and does cook very well for sushi - I would say it’s hard to cook it wrong when you follow the recommendations (1rice for 1.5water, boil and them simmer under the cover, until cooked). - it is vacuum sealed in 500g bags with is extremaly important. Last time when I got sushi rice from amazon it had bugs. So having vacuum sealed bags in cupboard gives me asurance it is fresh. - it’s sealed in half (2 bags per 1kg package) which is another advantage. Normally for a family of 2-4 you would use 500g anyhow, not more, so these bags are ideal for us.
