The Fix

Great Read
Let me just say K' wan has yet to disappoint me.The Fix was not real typical as far as street literature goes. Persia is an example of what happens when young girls are overly protected. She was fascinated by the street life but clueless as to what that lifestyle involved. She didn't know someone could hold so much hatred in their heart so as to use her and abuse her. She allowed Chucky that privilege and even after all he put her through she was still clueless. Then you have Lil Monk who has great potential to do good but probably won't. I hope there is another book to this because I'd love to see more of Omega, Pharoah, and Ramses. K'wan' s characters are so realistic. There's so much more I could say about this story but you need to read it for yourself. K'wan thank you for sharing your gift with us.

The rise of a new mega character!
So. I have been a K'wan fan for years. Read everything he's seen fit to publish and as a member of his book club I've had the pleasure of reading snippets of work he has yet to release. The Fix is a story of a young girls spiral- no plummet into drug addiction. This story is absent of the usual cliche's...the creep step father with grabby hands, the hard knock life. Persia has lost her father to prison but she and her mother were not thrust back into the belly of the ghetto streets. They maintained and her mother even married a decent man who cared for Persia as well as any father would. This forces the reader to take a realistic hard look at drug addiction and acknowledge that it is not just a lost urban kid problem. It is a wealthy White kid problem, it is a suburban private school educated kid problem, it is a problem for those who you think should have no problems. Now, to the main reason behind my review. Lil Monk! With Animal, we didn't see him coming, he just flashed his gold grill, and slipped out the shadows to snatch our hearts and loyalty. With Lil Monk- we see him coming. We glimpsed him as a child and we understand his motivations in his young adult hood. We see his struggle and we see his heart and take no s*** attitude and we respect it. He is characterized as a dog on a leash but what those around him don't know is that he alone holds his leash and the last character to yank his own chain consequences be damned turned into a street literature movement. I like how he manages himself, I like his maturity, I like how he handles his lil homegirl Sophie (love her!) and I hope to see more!If you are trying to decide if you are going to read this book. Totally do it! It is not cliche. The baller drug dealers do not always stay that way. The far reaching, sharp tentacles of hard drug addiction are shown through the various characters who succumb to the beast and also through the characters who see the effects of addiction and through whose eyes we can see a clear picture of what it means to be an addict.Loved it. Read it. You won't be sorry! :-)

Fire
I thought this book was a true warning to young naive girls just looking for bad boys and adventure. It was a good read, I couldn't put this book down. My heart went out to the young men and women growing up in a world filled with too much sex, violence and drugs. The only thing I disliked were some grammatical errors, but other wise K'wan has definitely got another classic on his hands.

True to life!
Just finished reading the Fix and the Fix 2 by K'wan. There we so much in these books the rang true to life, until it made me go back and think about some of the kids from my childhood who did not make it! Can you truly say your people are really down for you or is there an hidden strain of jealousy and hatred from the friend who is really a foe? Lil Monk was a character that you learned to love from his first introduction in the Fix. Going from a kid who had everything to a kid scavenging just to eat was heart breaking, but he never forgot his circumstances and where he came from! As he got older he made sure he looked out for those unable to properly look out for themselves, so he was loved and respected by many which caused a problem for some who let envy get in the way of seeing the truth! The principals that were instilled in Lil Monk reminds me of a good friend of mine in that integrity, loyalty, respect are the gospel they live by! I don't do spoilers so I won't go deeper into this story other than to say the streets love and respect no one, as it is filled with nothing more than trickery and deceit! The author gave us strong developed characters that could hold their own in their own stories leaving many options if the author chose to go that route! I have not read one book by this author that I would not recommend to others! I just discovered his novels in 2013 and it's been on a popping since then! If you have not read The Animal Series, Ghetto Bastard and Black Lotus, let me suggest you do! Dude has like 25 books out so I'm way behind but his pen is the truth! Definitely a 5 star read! Great job K'wan!

Thanks for staying true to the craft!!!
I love, love, love K'Wan. He has yet to disappoint. I'm glad this vet takes his time, makes us wait (not too long) and always deliver. I've been a fan of urban lit for over a decade and lately the genre has been draining my pockets for chapters labeled novels with 15 parts riddled with grammatical errors. ( thank god I finish In a day and can return the trash) Yes, I did notice the few errors in this book; I say few because there were not many and it was easily over looked. The fix was an awesome read. I love the connection between his books. While the story was a little predictable, it still peeked my interest and I can't wait for part two. Richard is going to show and prove in the next part, I need to hear more about face, lil monk is going to end up in a heart wrenching love triangle....lmao... I should probably stop babbling. My only issue with the story was that it was stretched out in the beginning then rushed towards the end.Kwan, thanks for staying true to the craft. Thank you for choosing quality over quantity. Urban authors, please stop releasing $10.00 teasers. Letting your children edit your work. Releasing 40 pages and calling it a novel. Take notes from this man. I'm ready to see your work on the big screen. Make it happen, sir!!!

I am fixed on the Fix
The Fixed was an interesting read. It had great character development. Out of the many stories I read from K'wan this is one of the believable ones. Persia Chandler is so gullible and naive and let's herself fall for a drug dealer name Chucky. Whenever I thought Persia was coming to her senses she falls right back into the fix but it's a great way to lead into the Fix 2 which I already know I am going to read.
