Taverner: Missa Corona Spinea

The sublimity of the double gimel.
In this almost agonisingly exquisite performance by the Tallis Scholars, they have surpassed themselves, aided perhaps by the replacement of the boy trebles with two sopranos who take those murderously high parts with much panache, and amelioration of the overall sound. This is a tribute to the sublimity of Tudor polyphony, and it seems likely that the vile Henry 8 was jealous of Wolsey's private choir with its famous trebles. Hear this, and be transported to a world of pure delight!

Sublime
A lovely clear sound - and although the singing is absolutely sublime the slow pace becomes a bit dirgey, unlike the earlier performance by The Sixteen: But that's a personal preference - listen to it, as Taverner is/was astounding.

Wow! !!!!
Wonderful recording quality and singing of the highest quality. The music tends to sound repetitive to my taste but it is liturgical so originally designed for ceremonial use rather than concert/passive listening. An extraordinary disc though. Really worth the money.
