Can you do it without? sure, but it always helps to have a map. Do yourself a favor and get one of these if you’re planning on doing any repair work.

Needs a part where you can put the phone parts like the screen and logic board or battey a non magnetic special place.
These things are great but it sucks too that you cant put the phone parts on the mat only screws and metal parts and screwdrivers. I did not know this before i bought them.
