Introduction to Glass Fusing

I found this book to be helpful in doing fused glass. I have been doing it with some friends for about a year when the pandemic hit. I needed to learn more to do it by myself and this was such a help to me. I recommend getting it. It is easy and simple to read. Lots to know and learn!!

I'm flabbergasted that so many people give this book a five star rating. It must come down to a matter of tastes. Let me frame where I am coming from. I'm a 33 year old gay computer programmer into art. To me, the projects are all tacky and unappealing. I have no desire to hang sloppy little pinwheels in my windows or cast 2D frogs or dolphins with glass frit. If you're someone like me, check out "Contemporary Fused Glass" for a book that's inspiring. If you're a mother who likes *crafts,* I think this book could be adequate. If you ever use phases like "isn't that precious" or "bless her little heart" without meaning it in a sarcastic and bitchy way, this book might be just fine for you. And I mean this with no disrespect- we are all our own people. And if you are a nice person, please stop reading here. The remainder is sassy and not sugar-coated. I really hate to hurt anyone's feelings, but I think something needs to be mentioned about the quality of the author's work. For an artist who claims to have been doing this for twenty years, her work looks amateurish and sloppy. You can take a look at her web site's gallery. I could only pick out two or three pieces that appeared to be created by an artist who had been doing this for more than a few weekends. You'll even find a logo drawn in Microsoft Paint. These are NOT the hallmark of a successful artist. I'm going out on a limb here, but I think the author must be a "doctor's wife" or "lawyer's wife" and he's footing the bill for her glamorous and expensive hobby. This doesn't qualify one to write a book.

Great book

...book for anyone interested in learning the art of glass fusing! In an "Introduction to Glass Fusing" author Petra Kaiser provides a clear, concise and easy to understand road map for beginners / novices to learn how to work with glass. Kaiser provides much needed information like: tools of the trade, information re: various kiln options, understanding how to work with the various glass and much, much more.Bottom-line, a "must have" for anyone starting out as well as a great reference for current glass fusers!

This book is not too daunting and explains everything in nice simple terms for the beginner. I saw plenty of references to Kaiser-Lee shelf paper in the book, but did not realize until the supplier's list that the author is part owner of Kaiser-Lee. Usually this sort of self-promotion really annoys me, but it was done rather tastefully in this book. Some of the projects are very specific - a bit too much emphasis on sushi plates, for example - but otherwise a very good book.

I bought this hoping I would learn something I didn't already know like how to fire a kiln properly. the firing schedule caused me to overfire and the explanation of said firing schedule was confusing. I guess for someone who doesn't know a thing about fusing would find it helpful but I am disappointed.

interesting. I figured out that I can't do much until I can afford a kiln, but it's great future reference.

Very informative book

This is an interesting book with lots of interesting projects inside. All I need now is the kiln. (We're saving for one!) I knew it was a good book as I first got it from the local library, this one is in very good condition. A lovely book.
