Very easy to use - sturdy but still able to cut to length with normal kitchen scissors. Much cheaper than buying in store so I’m glad I bought online - got a lot more dowels for my money! Can wash and reuse also to save waste.

The last time that it was necessary for me to use supports for a tiered cake I had small narrow, solid sticks of plastic which did the job admirably however these don't seem to be sold now in favour of this style, like wider, stronger plastic straws. Did the job too but there are caveats, namely it means it cuts cylindrical holes into the cake, filling the 'straws' with cake and leaving wider holes in the cake when cutting. Another drawback I feel that I must also point out is that you will need strong scissors or other cutting 'device' and given the cylindrical shape, getting an entirely straight cut is more than a tad difficult especially when you have a few to cut to be the identical height/depth of cake. It also tends to leave a few stray bits of plastic when cutting which I had to wipe away with a damp cloth so they did not find their way into the cake itself. That said, given this must be the preferred style, it did support the tier above. If I can't find the solid sticks in the future I would buy again as they do they job if not perfectly, though this is the styling at manufacture, not the fault of the supplier.
