The instructions are very clear, and there was enough material to make two with some modifications (using green for the ‘hair’ on the second one). Liked it so much I bought another kit as a gift for a friend. Great if you have mid-level crochet skills – i.e., you’ve made things before and understand the basics, but haven’t done a lot of fancy crafts, or haven’t picked up the hook in a while, and don’t have the time/energy/motivation to buy the materials for a pattern. It was fun to make and I enjoyed it.

I absolutely had a terrible time following the videos. This was the first crochet kit I tried and while I loved that it came with practice yarn the video was hard to follow both because of the teacher being very difficult to understand but also because it was hard to see what exactly she was doing with her hands. The video has a fast and slow version of each step which just made me more frustrated as it was slowed down but not clearer. The yarn is reasonably easy to work with but not as easy as other yarns. I ended up getting other kits to learn the steps and will return to this one when I have enough of a foundation that I am not relying on the videos to teach me the stitches and just using them as guides..

I will start with the reason this is four stars instead of 5: the yarn is fingering weight which is just way too small for a beginner yarn. Many beginner sets come with “beginner yarn” which doesn’t fray, and these sets that come with tiny yarn and needles are just a little more challenging for someone just learning how to crochet. I am not a beginner, so I found this pretty simple and a quick project! The yarn is soft and both the books and included videos (QR codes on each book) are super helpful for not only learning beginner stitches, but also a slowed down, step by step guide for making the actual project. Anything small not included could easily be found in any other YouTube video, but I found this very easy to follow. The little groot-like tree man is super cute! It comes with all the tools you need to begin, so you don’t really need to worry about having to purchase supplies to make this, there is even test yarn to practice on before you start. The supplies are all great quality so you can keep them when you are done and use them to start your crochet collection! VERY reusable and the hooks are ergonomic and easy to use. Overall, this was a fun beginner project and would be great for someone who has never done crochet ever and just needs a jumping-off point. As I said, the only complaint is that the smaller yarn can be really frustrating to work with if you have never done crochet before.

It’s a very short project, but there are a lot more stitches to learn than most “beginner” projects. There are eight more stitches than the simplest beginner project that I’ve made. So said, besides the stitches, it wasn’t hard at all. This is my eighty-third completed project from a crochet kit and I have been crocheting for a whole year now :) Instructions: Paper: The paper instructions are great, only they didn’t tell me how to do a treble crochet or a double treble crochet. Crochetta usually includes red written instructions for uncommon stitches in the pattern booklet, but they didn’t this time. I had to watch the video for those stitches. They tell you when to stuff him, put his eyes in and everything…well, except for what I mentioned. There is a separate booklet for learning the individual stitches and crochet concepts necessary to finish this Little Tree Man. They list the ch and ss that aren’t usually listed for joined rounds in their pattern to make it easier for beginners. Video: There are no printed URLs in the booklets, so you will need a QR code reader (like the Camera app on an iPad) to view the videos. They have a QR code for the project and a separate one for each individual stitch. I just watched the project one. The video has the row instructions on the top left hand of the corner in black outlined with white. There is a narrator and everything they say is captioned on the bottom in black outlined with white, too. I can see what the hands are doing easily and they are very slow. Also they should new stitches twice in the video (the second time is in a window in the window). It’s really well done and easy to understand. Materials The yarn was soft and nice to work with. I didn’t have any issues with splitting. There was more than enough yarn, too (see photo for my leftovers…maybe I should’ve given him some more vines?). The 2.5m crochet ergonomic crochet hook is the grippier slower kind for beginners. I used my own faster hook. The eyes come with backs so you don’t have to use glue :) The stitch markers worked fine. The tapestry needle is a nice metal one. It slid between my stitches like butter :) The wire for the rose is plastic coated so my fingers didn’t get that yucky metallic smell :) Yay! Oh, and there was more than enough stuffing for him (also see photo). I like how the snippers say “Crochetta” but I didn’t use them this time. What I Did Different: I used my own safety doll eyes and I did his cheeks different. I also stuck the flower’s stem right through his hand (I used a huge knitting needle to widen the space between the stitched and twisted it in).

First, I didn't know these were considered cat toys! So that was perfect! I have 4 cats, so I can make 4 fishes. I love the little skeins of yarn for each fish. Comes with a crochet hook, stuffing, scissors, eyes, everything you need to make the fish. This is not beginner yarn, but hopefully it would be easy to work with. They make lots of other really cute kits, different types of yarns. The price is seems good for the quality of the kit and would make a great gift, as would their other kits.
