Charlie Parker with Strings: The Master Takes

Great sound to chill to. Great quality vinyl.

I was reluctant to purchase this after the quite negative comments. However,it made me curious so I purchased. I'm glad I ignored the blah.I cant find words to say that aren't a cliche, (sorry there goes one for a start) .Try this album,just don't expect a cracking , impressive CHARLIE, just a CHARLIE saying "it's ok It's alright"An album doesn't always have to blow your head off . Often it's better to keep your head and this is the album that does that.It stops you fretting about the size of your........fingernails and the size of your ......mortgage and most of all it says everything is gonna be ok. Let it wash over you and don't analyse . That is what CHARLIE was aiming for and I believe succeeded.Think you've heard one too many renditions of Porgy and Bess Summertime? Not until you listen to this perfect playing."BIRD" my floors are sparkling clean and all is right with the world listening to this "It doesn't matter at all - ever " album.

I first heard and had the live strings recordings on an old LP on Columbia Clef. The others came later in the 1970s some 25 years after they were made. The whole idea was many years before it's time and of course has been copied since using far less gifted people than Parker. Fortunately he was still playing at his best at this time and was clearly very happy to be able to do so in this environment. The songs must have been close to his heart since you will rarely hear this great artist playing with so much love. I just one day wanted to hear these great performances again and am delighted to have them in my collection again in this fine presentation. God bless Norman Granz for the idea and foresight to get this project made and for Charlie's lovely performances here.

Vintage Charlie Parker, not to be missed

A truly amazing Jazz album by Charlie Parker. I only ordered it after hearing " Laura" on Jazz FM a few weeks ago. I think I have played it everyday since.

Good sound quality and nice presentation, with a booklet containing an essay and listing of full personnel and recording dates for each track. And a lovely cover drawing!

I have loved this music for at least fifty years but as the LP is getting worn I thought that it was time I bought a refreshed copy.

Little disappointing. Perhaps I expected too much

Love to sit and listen to this cd when I'm on my own and when I have company. Just great music.

Loved this CD because it was different from most Parker recordings that focus on his bebop performances or work with other stars (Miles Davis etc.). The strings CD is mellow with a high degree of musical variety -- symphony orchestra with great jazz saxophonist. Strings CD adds a special dimension to my Parker collection. Especially enjoyed the two versions of "April in Paris."

"Charlie Parker With Strings" , cioè con accompagnamento di violini, viole, ed altri strumenti a corda – cosa insolita nel mondo del jazz- e registrati in New York City in varie sessioni negli anni 1947 – 1953Da notare la grande dolcezza del suono del sax alto di Charlie che però non cade mai nello stile sdolcinato/ melenso e la bellezza del suono ( come si suol dire sembra quasi che lo strumento “parli”) ; i brani sono degli “standars”, cioè dei classici molto noti e quindi si tratta di reinterpretazioni , ad esempio “Summer Time” é una classica opera di Gershwin, mentre” April in Paris” ed “Autumn in New York” sono di Vernon DukeSono molto rare queste incisioni di un solista di jazz ed una orchestra classica ed il disco è veramente bello e di facile ascolto

Auch ein Norman Granz mit hundert Strings konnte Charlie Parker nichts anhaben. Irgendwie ist es schon beeindruckend, wie unberührt Bird durch diese Arrangements hindurch "pflügt", ganz hell und klar.
