Not as described, but I'm keeping it. The one I purchased (18 wounds) came with 17, to me takes away from the size about 1/2 ". It's already small that's why I thought I ordered the larger one.

This was good practice for sutures. It has most of the needed supplies and because it's not a real patient, it can be used more than once.

As a vet tech volunteer who also works around horses, having the ability to suture wounds is a useful skill. There are literally dozens of different suture patterns that doctors, nurses, and vets use for closing wounds. And there are dozens of different sizes and materials of sutures that are used as well. Being able to practice suturing techniques is critical to learn by doing and developing a skill set that would be considered professional. This suture practice pad is ideal for this objective. The Medhelp silicon pad is made of high quality material that mimics the human skin tissue layers. Upon inspection I determined that the pad had no defects and was as described by the vendor. One issue that I note is the number of patterns listed. The 18 pattern pad appears to only have 17 cuts. Apparently, the current shipment of this product differs from the illustration on the Amazon web page which illustrates 18 patterns. The second straight line on the bottom of the pad is missing from my pad. This multiple pattern pad is ideal for practicing many of the most common types of injuries. I would have liked to see a round pattern to simulate a bullet hole. My only issue is how durable the material will be after suturing and removing the sutures over time. I suspect that at some point the punctures around the edges of the wound lines will not be able to sustain further penetrations which means this pad will have a useful life that is undetermined at this point in my practicing schedule. Fortunately with the reduction in the original price by about a third, this makes the value quite good for this pad. I would not expect that one would need to purchase these practice pads that often once a skill level has been achieved. You will need to purchase or obtain suturing tools and materials separately. Suturing is an art and each person will need to determine what they require to master their craft. Suturing is also a perishable skill that goes away if you don't continue to practice.

This is a great tool for beginners to understand how to suture, especially multiple times over the same wound. I've used suture pads before that get absolutely destroyed with multiple use but this one has been super durable even with going over the openings multiple times. My med student friends also use and love it!

Whether you are a doctor, nurse, EMT or just someone who has need of being able to stitch yourself up this practice pad is a pleasure to work with. The three layers offer differing levels of resistance, as would real flesh, skin, fat and muscle. This pad can be used over and over again to learn how to close different shaped wounds and improve your technique. Price (10) is quite reasonable. Besides medical related practitioners and students this would be perfect for scouts, campers, hikers, bikers and others who should know how to patch themselves up when they are away from qualified medical care and need to handle emergency situations. This pad, a set of forceps, needles and stitches are the perfect gift for any of these people.
