So I still don't understand why the knife itself costs twice as much as the knife with the gift box included, but maybe it's that old superstition about not gifting knives? Anyhow, the price was great.The "damascus pattern" is, of course, just a laser etching on the blade. You can see that it ends as soon as the bolster starts. Still, it seems to be a high quality blade.The material is listed as high carbon stainless. I'm not sure I'd trust this to be stainless--at least not a traditional high-nickel-content stainless--since a magnet will stick to it with ease. Probably best to keep it dry. On the other hand, it clearly holds an edge well, and as others have pointed out, it sharpens to a very fine edge.The handle feels very solid. It's surprisingly large, very smooth, and heavy enough to give a feeling of confidence. Overall, pretty amazing for the price.

While this was not a gift, the box and packaging could well have served that purpose, The knife itself was REALLY sharp from day one, and the weight and balance in the hand was superb. As a bonus, this is an incredibly good looking knife, one that looks like it would cost MUCH more than it actually did.Having Wusthof and Henckels in my knife drawer, I'm familiar with what a good knife should feel and perform like...this one fits right in with those, at least to this point.

Used for boning fish. Works well fits hand well. Nice knife good for the price.

Nice knife to trim the fat off boneless chicken breasts. Good performance and value for the $$. Seems durable for what is needed. Ergonomics of the knife is the same as you would find on your normal cutlery.

I bought this to filet fish that we catch. It is super sharp, fits my hand well and easy to use. Very happy with the purchase
