Fray Bentos Classic Steak & Kidney Pie 425G

I’ve been eating these since I was a kid in the UK. So, yeah, I like ‘em. Unlike some other reviewers they taste the same as always to me. My American-born family enjoy them also. As it was in1970; they’re not the same as mama used to make but they’re a fine meal given they are so easy and fast to cook.

I enjoy this dish immensely. Okay, kidneys are sometimes iffy for some eaters, but certain offal is actually good. There may be some liver-like taste to the kidney, and overall I am not fond of liver. This I find much better. The pastry shell over this pie is flakey and tasty in good ways. To best open this "can" I recommend one of the OXO Good Grips can openers.

I originally purchased and enjoyed Thus type of Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney pies throughout the 60’s 70’s and early 80’s. This current abortion as bought recently has to be THE WORST EXAMPLE of factory- produced Pie I have ever attempted to eat. It has almost no actual Steak and a minuscule amount of Kidney- the filling did not even fill 1/3rd of the pie whilst the “pastry” collapsed within seconds out of the Oven and was extremely rubbery and in-edible I am from the United Kingdom and eaten many of this type of product/pie many many time!! But this particular pies defies description without using curse words , I attempted to send the same comments to Fray Bentos but it appeared not to have accepted- ? I wonder why

This was my first time trying Steak & Kidney Pie and I was pleasantly surprised. I cooked it in my countertop convection oven (air fryer) and the puff pastry really puffed! I'm glad I set it on a little tray as the gravy bubbled out and leaked a little bit. Speaking of the gravy, it was flavorful and plentiful. I only wish there was more meat--the label reads, "now with more meat" and, if that's true, I'd hate to have tried it before. However, the meat was tender and very distinct between the steak and the kidney (I love beef kidney, but it might be an acquired taste for some). I'd give this 5 stars if there was more meat but I will still buy it again. It's a little pricey but I understand it's imported so will have it as a treat now and again.

So happy that we can have this product shipped through Amazon as no longer legal to carry back in our suitcases. These are delicious and are perfect for Pacific NorthWest weather right now! They are a bit on the spendy side but it is so worth it! Thank you Amazon for helping to make this happen!

The crust was good almost like a dumpling texture but the thin stew beneath was bland and had little meat content or anything else.

If you've been yearning for the flavor of kidneys, you 've got two options. Go down to the butcher, buy a pair of fresh ones, spend hour cleaning them and rinsing out some of that distinctive ammoniacal tang and aroma, broil them to a turn and enjoy! Half a day's work in the kitchen but worth it. Or, you can just preheat your oven, pop the top of this container, and give it a half hour or so to raise up. A fine golden pastry crust enclosing a rich broth of beef and kidneys. A kidney pot pie! And so easy! Fray Bentos is your go-to for British delicacies. Some close-minded folks would call it offal. I call it delish! If your taste for things British runs to eel pie and a toad in the hole, Fray Bentos has something for you!

Was not impressed on how it was packaged in the blue and white Amazon package, obviously it was miss handled, and because of this, the vacuum seal didn’t hold up. The pie itself was a huge letdown, as there was only a dessert spoonful of meat, it consisted mostly of gravy. Still tasted as I remembered.

These pies have been around for years but grown expensive. The Amazon price is best.

Very nice

Personally I love these pies. Pastry is crispy on top and softer underneath. Lots of flavour and enough for 2 people. Meat and gravy is so tasty. Although, not a lot of meat in the pie.

Good pie for the price. A bit more meat would be nice.

Very tasty and plenty to eat given the size of pie!! Very filling with great steak and gravy. Bit dear !! But will still buy it as its a very nice treat !! Thank you 😊
