This book is packed with incredibly helpful information and laid out in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re starting from zero. I really enjoyed how clearly each step of the beekeeping process was broken down, from choosing the right hive to knowing exactly what to look for during inspections. The recommendations for equipment and hive styles were practical and realistic, and the guidance on how to get connected with local beekeeping groups was especially valuable. If you’re thinking about starting your first hive or just want to understand the basics before jumping in, this book is the perfect place to begin!

I loved the simplicity of the text. The recommendations were very clear and concise. Much easier to follow then other books I've read. I did find some of the pictures difficult to visualize in the book. The black and white photos were not very clear and it made it difficult, at times, to accurately identify what was being discussed or explained. Overall the book was very helpful to me as a Newbee. I also liked the simple checklist and the Top Bar Guide was very helpful.

I enjoyed the book immensely and found it extremely helpful. I am just putting together my first hives. Some of the photos I wish were in color and of a higher quality, but the explanations of the subject matter was excellent. My only recommendation would be to offer it on video.

This book is a great way to get started. I have always wanted to start beekeeping, yet I was hesitant. (Who doesn’t) My neighbor gave me the boxes and some equipment. So, I got this book and I’m using it to start my journey. So far, I have learned exactly what needs to be done step by step. I would highly recommend this book to beginners like me.

As a person who has always thought about starting with bees, this book is providing the biggest kick-start to get into it. I never realised a fraction of what’s detailed in this step-by-step reference book for go-to-whoa (start-to-finish if you’re not Australian). Keeping bees is complex in terms of what you need to be aware of. Michael York does a great job in breaking down the whole subject and not only providing a guide to sourcing, purchasing, building, harvesting, marketing etc etc. He has covered everything in a very readable way. I was fascinated by the section on bees diseases and the ways to deal with them. And silly me thought the only thing bees needed to worry about was the Varroa mite. I didn’t know that “killer bees” were a viable option in some places. I commend Michael York’s book as the reference book to go to.

Decided to get Bees next year. After reading this book and referring to a number of people who have experience handling bees, this book has made increased my confidence at success. Great overview of what anyone just starting out realistically needs.

I have found the book full of information and facts and how to keep bees is explained in great detail and is easy to understanding and is not complicated. I am attending an 8 week course in February 2024 and I will use this book as a reference document during my course.
