Air King Ceiling Mounted Snap-In Installation 100 CFM Bathroom Exhaust Fan for Bathrooms up to 100 Square Feet, BFQ110

OK....I was somewhat skeptical of the low price for this fan but I took the plunge and bought the 100 CFM model. It arrived today and I installed it today. The installation wasn't easy but not because of the fan. My attic is hot and I had to crawl on the support beams so I wouldn't fall through the drywall. Total time to take out the old crappy unit and install this new fan was about two hours. The fan came with just about everything needed to install it but it does not come with mounting screws. So make sure you have some high quality wood screws before you start this project or use nails. I had to use a 4 inch to 3 inch adapter on this fan but I knew that before purchase so make sure you have the correct exhaust duct size before you climb into your attic. I highly suggest anyone installing bathroom vent fans use the shiny Foil Tape used in HVAC systems. It's cheap and great for connecting the exhaust ducting to the fan exhaust. The foil tape will prevent any leakage from the exhaust duct connection if used correctly. You want to make sure there is ZERO leakage into your attic from any and all bathroom exhaust fans. I replaced my entire roof yesterday because of a leaking bathroom exhaust fan. The fan leaked moisture slowly but surely into the attic and cause a large section to grow mold. You get the picture. After installing the fan I sealed the gaps in the drywall so no air is leaking into or out of the attic from the bathroom below. I used the Foil Tape for this. It worked great. A suggestion for anyone installing this unit: I suggest you connect the exhaust ducting to the exhaust of the fan BEFORE mounting the fan unit on the fan mount. Why? Because the exhaust port if snug against the support beam the mounting bracket is connected to. There is very little room to seal the connection with Foil Tape or anything else if the fan is mounted in it's bracket before connecting the exhaust ducting. Testing the exhaust fan: I turned it on and was surprised that this fan is actually quieter than the fan it replaced (original with house). I used a sound meter and tested the fan noise of this fan: 69 dB. Not bad. The original fan was half the air flow (50 CFM) and it was noisy at 80 dB. Next test was the "smoke test": With the fan running I opened a can of "smoke" two feet below the fan intake. The smoke was sucked in the fan quickly. So all in all this is a great deal to me. It's relatively quiet, pushes 100 CFM (with a 4 inch exhaust duct) and is very inexpensive compared to other brands. What more can you ask for at this price? I'm ordering another one now for the other upstairs bathroom.

We purchased this Air King fan to replace the fan and motor of our 19 year old fan. Once I cleaned and disassembled our existing fan we realized it was not possible to remove the old housing without making it a drywall and ceiling paint repair job due to the "clip in" feature. So we cleaned out the housing, removed the fan from the new one and used the old screws to install it into our old housing. We also used the new cover as the old one was faded. It works great- and now we can hear just how our old one had really given up. This one sounds stronger and a little louder- not a problem bc it works and was super easy to install.

Installed in combination with a Leviton Humidity switch for my finished basement To be frank, it's very plastic and doesnt feel solid and it was pretty noisy and rattly at first, I realized that some of the motor screws were loose, once fixed it fixed the rattle and helped with the noise but it's still too loud, especially compared to the Panasonic Whisper in-line air extractor in my bathroom. But it works and it works well, has made a massive difference in the air quality in the basement and for the price its still a good buy, it's not really for habitable spaces and there's no way I'd put this in my bathroom but other people with little sensitive hearing probably would be indifferent ?

This exhaust fan works great. I have a 5 x 11 full bathroom, this fan works great and its not all that loud. The install was easy since it just clicks in place after you install the bracket. There is no need to go into the crawl space to install. My local big box stores had similar fans but there price was a lot more.

I had to remove an old exhaust fan in my bathroom and replace it. I bought this fan based on the reviews that I read. It was fairly easy to install. I removed the old fan with a small crow bar and pliers, and cut the drywall in the ceiling to accommodate this unit. The metal holding bracket attaches to the ceiling joist in four places, I used screws. I had to cut the hole a bit larger than I hoped because of the metal bracket and the protruding 4" exhaust vent. The unit seems to move air well in my 80' square foot bathroom. My problem though is noise. This fan is pretty loud, in fact I can hear it coming up my steps outside of my bathroom. I didn't expect perfect quiet at this price, but I hope it would be a bit quieter. Otherwise the materials and packaging are good.

I've only been using this fan for about a week, and so far it is a fantastic fan. Very quiet (compared to the 30 year old fan it replaced), and does an excellent job of removing the hot, moist air during a shower. Do not let the other reveiws about difficult installation scare you away, it is super easy if you have access to the attic aboove. The fan fits perfectly in the hole if take 2 seconds to remove the exhaust outlet with a flat head screwdriver. Once the fan is clipped securely into position, simply go into the attic to snap the outlet back on and attach the rest of your duct work. This is an excellet fan and I will be replacing my other bathroom fans with this one in the near future.

Just replaced a small fan in my larger than normal bathroom with vault! This thing looks and works great not super quiet but it moves 2 x as much air as my last ceiling fan and is about the same in loudness. This does have a 4" vent so make sure if you are upsizing from 3" you are aware! I was and wanted the upgrade and was easy to wire, mount and re run new 4" vent tubing!

Update 12/31/2020: I broke down and got another one of these fans. The power and price point are right for me. However, when I installed it (always a pain, and ALWAYS ends up chipping away more drywall) the fan was noticeably louder. Or the vibrating case or frame was louder. So I returned it, hoping it was an anomaly... Guess what, I just installed the new one and it's the same. When it's not installed (i.e. just hanging there or me holding it) the fan loudness is just fine. About where they've always been. However, as soon as the plastic housing touches the studs or drywall, the noise increases dramatically. Clipping it into it's retainer doesn't help (maybe makes it worse?). I'm pretty bummed. It's been a decent fan despite the short lifespan. As someone posted, the fans are now made in China, so maybe that's the issue. The noisy ones say Made in China on the plastic housing. My older (quieter!) version does not say Made In China on the housing. See my photo. The fan itself is not loud, and they're all Chinese (my old ones and the new noisy ones). So it must be the housing that's the problem. In any case, this fan is going back, too. I'm off to find a new brand! Previous review: I have installed 3. They are tricky, as many have stated, but that's not my complaint. I don't like the fan because it only seems to last 3-5 years before it starts getting louder and louder and has to be replaced. I'm literally listening to it rattle and it's been just over 3 years. I'm looking for something new this time.

This exhaust fan replaced one in our home that had reached the end of it's service life. Unable to find one locally, it was great to find this model on line and it was delivered very quickly. It was an easy install and works as expected.

Existing house used this model but has a loud noise even cleaned all dust, found same model and save a lot of time to only change the motor with fan, just plug in and ease to install and doesn’t need to remove the whole box and touch the wire. However, not the most quiet one but has improvement on noise level. Great they keep the same spec as old item.

Exactly what we needed

Have had 3 of these exact same model fans running in my home for between 15 and 20 years, depending on when I built the next bathroom and have never had a problem ! Finally, the oldest one completely stopped working and I was surprised to find the same ones selling on Amazon after all these years ....I ordered one immediately and it arrived within a day or 2 but was unusually loud (probably a bad bearing) so I contacted the seller to let them know and they had a replacement on my doorstep within 2 days !! And this one works and sounds perfect...
