Behavioral Neuroscience

The book itself is fine. I've taken variations of this class before so it's pretty much all review. It's a bit dry, but has it's moments and assumes very little about your prior knowledge. My issue is that if you rent used- beware. My book is absolutely covered in markings and highlights. Someone underlined almost the entire book, circled random parts of the paragraphs and added their crappy commentary. The description said there might be some highlights and markings but this book is in pretty poor condition.

I had to use this textbook for my Biopsychology course Senior year. I rented it for the semester because, as a poor college student, I wanted to cut corners. However looking back, I really regret skimping out. This book was fantastic and would greatly help my now that I am in graduate school pursuing my PhD. Really great information in a very clear manner. If you have to use it for a class you'll really enjoy it; and if you are looking for a good textbook to have around the house (to refer to or just make you look smart) this book will really do the job.The book itself arrived in excellent condition and before my course even started, so I could go into class well prepared. There were a few bookmarks leftover from the previous user, but that didn't bother me. I had an amazing rental experience!

I have mixed feelings about this book (7th Edition). Generally, I like it and would give it a 4-star. The material was expansive and interesting, the graphical presentation excellent and informative. Two features made me downgrade it to three stars (and I'd have preferred to give it a 3 1/2 stars if Amazon let me. The problems noted below were just too frustrating.First, the website associated with the book is truly dreadful (but could have been such a good resource). Practice exercises and exams in which "fill in the blank" entries are used are almost unworkable. They are looking for a particular word out of the book, and synonyms or plurals (even when grammatically correct) are flagged as wrong answers. The use of semicolons to separate multiple word answers will also result in answers flagged as wrong, or if the order of correct answers is mixed. As somebody who has written a lot of scripts, I must judge whomever wrote the scripts underlying these exercises to be thoroughly incompetent (have they ever heard of an OR statement or pattern matching?!). Since the text itself doesn't contain exercises, thought problems, and the like (and refers you to the website, I was left with no resource for practicing and developing my understanding.Second, since the underlying material is such an active area of research right now, much of the material is based upon publications. Many of the descriptions of the material in the publications is watered down for presentation, and the key concepts get lost in translation. For example, the discussions of brain regions in attention (Chapter 18) ended up completely incomprehensible (lists of brain regions with descriptions that sounded all the same), forcing me to go to the referenced publication to figure out what the author was getting at. Additionally, a subset of much older publications (circa 1990s or 2000s) was used, and more recent material omitted. It's a difficult problem for the authors given the high level of research activity in the field, but the text probably needs to be updated more often to reflect recent discoveries, and update older research findings.It's a good book, but I found myself repeatedly going back to Kandel's Principles of Neuroscience (a more advanced text) for pedagogical clarity and to fill in the gaps.

For the price and for the convenience, I have given this a 3/5 stars. I was very happy with it being loose-leaf and easy to handle. However, I never checked to see if all the chapters were IN there. I'm currently working on my final for my summer class only to find out they didn't send chapter 16 AT ALL. I flipped through to see if it was just put somewhere else, but it was not. I managed chapter 16 with the supplemental reading my professor provided, but it really messed me up when my homework was strictly over chapter 16.

The BEST BioPsych Bookl out there! Would read it even if the class wasn't required. Extremely useful, easy to follow, and pertinent. I'd highly recommend this book!

This is a wonderful book, well written and the price was great. I purchased new which was same price as some of the used books for sale. It was better to purchase new as it gave me a chance to use the publisher's online resource tools that are reserved for new purchases only.

I've brought this book to aid me with my studies at university, as it is one of the recommended textbooks. However, whilst the content of the book seems amazing, and looks like it will be excellent for my studies, the front of the book is ripped and damaged. This isn't what I expect when I have paid nearly £40.

Not how you expect a £40 text book to arrive... not acceptable.

Perfect! Recommend for MSc Psychology course - thorough coverage of all topics.

Really useful book, pictures are a great help and the online quizzes that come with it are a great bonus for revision
