Outstanding 5 Ghz band performance
The Wavlink AC1200 router worked pretty well in our home (4 stars) and even better as a repeater (5 stars), especially on the 5 Ghz band.I first tested it as a router and it performed a better than my existing router. On the 2.4 GHz band, the Wavlink provided a stronger signal, but I didn't really notice any speed difference. However, it was a different story on the 5 GHz band, with much better and faster performance. The Wavlink router's 5 GHz signal reached about twice as far and is twice as strong; my speed more than doubled on the 5 GHz band and I can now get a good 5 GHz signal in my upstairs rooms, whereas before I was unable to get a usable 5 GHz signal with the old router.I did run into a weird glitch of some sort. After using it for a few days with about 16 devices linked to the router, I tried to add a few more devices and it wouldn't accept any more connections (the new devices keep saying it was unable to connect and I'm trying with the new devices right next to the router). I finally decided to reset the Wavlink router back to the original factory settings, reconfigure the router all over again, and then I was able to connect the 16 devices, plus the other 2 devices I wanted to add. Don't know what happened, but I was unable to reproduce the issue. In addition, I did notice that my wireless camera's video feed would occasionally exhibit some latency causing the live video to be a bit jerky which did not happen with my old router. On the other hand, I didn't have any issues streaming shows on TV or viewing videos in my browser. So I'm not really sure if it's a latency issue or not.I also tested using the Wavlink as a Repeater, and it exceeded my expectations. (You have to go into the Advance menu to set it as Repeater.) I am using it on the 2nd floor and it is able to pull in the signal from the 1st floor main router, and now I have a very strong 2nd floor 5 GHz signal strength in all my upstairs rooms. Before I was barely getting 5 Mbps in one of the rooms, and with the Wavlink repeater, I can now get over 40 Mbps!!The Wavlink router is pretty big, around 8 inches in diameter and does take up a lot of space with the 4 antennas. Also the blue Wavlink logo on top of the router is big and very bright. I basically hid the router behind some other stuff so as to not be so noticeable.I do like the fact that it has Gigabit ports (my old router was limited to 100 MHz ports) and so I am now able to utilize all the speed that my cable modem was delivering. And having a USB port at the back is a bonus as I can then share files to all my computers on the network. Unfortunately, the USB port cannot be configured to share a printer like I can with my old router. All in all, I recommend this Wavlink router for its strong 5 GHz performance (signal strength and speed). And if you need a strong repeater/extender for your wireless signal, check out the Wavlink router in Repeater mode; it worked a lot better than other extenders that I have used.

robust and versatile
The AC1200 delivers a combined speed of up to 1200Mbps, split between 300Mbps on the 2.4GHz band and 867Mbps on the 5GHz band. This is suitable for a range of activities, from casual web browsing and streaming to more demanding tasks like online gaming and HD video streaming. The dual-band functionality ensures that devices can connect to the less crowded 5GHz band for faster speeds when needed.with four 5dBi high-gain antennas that not only enhance its aesthetic appeal but also significantly boost its signal coverage. These antennas ensure that the signal strength is strong and stable across a medium-sized home or office, reducing dead zones and providing a reliable connection throughout.Equipped with four Gigabit WAN/LAN ports, the WAVLINK AC1200 allows for high-speed wired connections, which are perfect for devices that require a stable and fast internet connection, such as gaming consoles, desktop computers, and smart TVs. The availability of multiple ports makes it easy to connect several devices simultaneously without compromising on speed. its multiple operational modes, including Router, Access Point (AP), and Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) mode. This flexibility makes it a versatile choice for different networking scenarios. The Guest WiFi feature is also a thoughtful addition, allowing you to create a separate network for guests to use, which helps in maintaining the security of your primary network.

Easy connect with app
The WAVLINK AC1200 WiFi Router Dual Band Wireless Internet system is as easy to connect and use as others we have used. We especially like the included app to help monitor, connect , and use the router. We would purchase again.

internal separated, isolated guest router, occasional use, behind a very good firewall or good router
_The “WAVLINK AC1200 WiFi Router Dual Band Wireless Internet Router, 4 Gigabit WAN/LAN Ports, 4 x 5dBi High-Gain Antennas, Supports Guest WiFi, Router/AP/WISP Mode, Parental Control_Simultaneous 2.4Ghz 300 Mbps and 5Ghz 867 Mbps connections for 1200 Mbps of total available bandwidth_1 x 10/100/1000Mbps WAN port, 4 x 10/100/1000Mbps LAN ports, and 1 x USB 3.0 port_WPA 3 security” seem to have a lot going for it. The auto selection (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz) when connect to wifi is a real convenience for “novice”, it’s also provided relative good coverage , transmitting and receiving speed, however it is open another can of worm you don’t want to go. You can disable it and setting up individually. The time zone setting take a bit of help from “dr. Google” to set the time zone correctly or you can play with it until it is close to your time zone. With the ability to assign difference vlans to difference physical port is great. They do provided an easy way to setup an auto reboot schedule, this feature generally take a little digging to find and setup. We were hoping to use this one of our out-bound facing router. But when test to see what the router present to the outside we were shocked to find all but one port is stealth all other ports showed up as closed. This present a very visible and temping target for the unsavory. At the time of this review there are no upgrade firmware available--

All the basic features you'd want
I have this serving as a convenient bridge on my network to help cover the other end of my home and yard better. I'm pleased with the range I'm seeing, particular in the 'dead spots' in the yard. I wouldn't doubt that interference from new neighbors has contributed to my coverage issues, but this has help remedy that issue. Setup was intuitive enough that I didn't need the instructions to get in and start configuring--about as straight forward as a Linksys WRT54g. Gigabit LAN is great to have if/when I convert to and access point.
