Sweeney Todd- Movie Selections- Piano,Vocal Paperback – December 1, 2010

I was so looking forward to playing this music but was disappointed with the transcription of these songs. First of all they are not that challenging as some have said. It's not a "easy rendition" piano but there is another book for that. I wanted a rendition that one finds with Andrew Lloyd Webbers music ie .intermediate music you can build on to your level. I like in Music of the Night to roll my left hand in eighth notes D-flat to F rather than play quarter note chords . Second and most importantly this is written as a pianist accompianist and not solo piano. There are 3 staffs:2 for piano and 1 for singer. The piano does not play THE MELODY. This made me unhappy as I am not a singer. Therefore I have to look at three staffs and figure out how I'm going to play it. There are some left hand chords that are impossible to play ("13ths! ") and should have been better thought out. I love Sweeny Todd and the complexity of Sondheim's harmonies (as there would have to be with it's themes of love and hatred).This was a grand opportunity that lacked the response it deserved.

Exactly what I was looking for, the sheet music for the musical.

For a bit of background, I've played piano for over 10 years and have over 15 Broadway musical piano/vocal sheet music books.This Sweeney Todd delivers on all counts. The music is not for a beginner, for sure, but would be appropriate for intermediate to difficult players. The piano part is not shortchanged to get vocals, as it so often is; the vocal part is full of the beautiful rhythms. Another nice touch is that the monologue into the songs are included at the top of the music-I've never seen that before.However, there is one problem. To get the movie down, some of the middles of songs have been cut. One noticeable cut, which happens to be my favorite song, is "Kiss Me" (performed by Johanna and Antony, and then Todd in the 2nd). If your only exposure has been the movie, though, you will find it exactly as seen.

This not alone one of my favorite musicals, but one of my favorite movies period! I absolutely LOVE the music, but I think you can tell from listening to it alone that it's probably not all too easy to play. Most of these songs are in very difficult key signatures and lots of accidentals. It can also be very jumpy with large chords. I've been playing piano for almost 10 years and it was even a bit difficult for me. It's fun to find your way through it, but this book is DEFINITELY not for a beginner!

It says "piano, vocal, cords" but there was no guitar chords sadly. Normally the books I've purchased have had Piano Vocal and Guitar. This edition does not have guitar.

The transition to the piano works extremely well for most pieces. The numbers are technical and challenging, but very melodic and fun to sing to. Because this is an adaptation from the movie, rather than a play, a few of the minor musical numbers are missing. However, the memorable pieces are all present and the book is very long. It's a fun play if you enjoy the original music

I really wanted this for the sheet music for "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" but then I realized the other book I had ordered, "The Singer's Musical Theatre Anthology - Soprano" had this music.BUT! It is always good to have the sheet music in a book with the rest of its play's songs.A great price and good quality. The book is not flimsy at all and includes accompanyments.

I'm a college student taking a singing course and we had to make a musical theatre selection for our repetoire for the end of the semester. I ordered this early. Luckily I did, because I did not receive the musical selections. Instead, I received the Sweeney Todd novel adaptation! This is not the companion novel, this is the play transcribed into novel form edited by Robert L. Mack. But who knows if I'll be able to get the musical selections from Amazon in time. In my opinion, don't order this item. But everyone else has gotten the right item, so, I suppose order with caution. I will be purchasing from elsewhere.
