Made of hickory, not the highest quality
Mine had a large split along the grain that required some chisel work and spokeshave work to remove anything that would hurt me as an operator. I didn’t return because it was for a beater hammer but if I was replacing a head on a different one I would strongly consider it.

Quality Control Issue
The handle I received has a pretty severe twist along its entire length. So much so that the head of the hammer is about 10-15 degrees off to one side. Need better quality control before these leave the factory.

Feels good in my hand. Solid. Nice upgrade.
I purchased this handle to font in a 16 ounce claw hammer head. Installed easily with a little shaping and sanding as to be expected. I was done in less than 20 minutes.I like the finish, the look, and the feel in my hand as I use it. Would definitely buy again for a similar hammer head.

should have listened
I read the reviews before I bought this and one did stand out. I did not listen when I should have. These handles are machined crooked so that when installed the octagon shape is twisted from the head. It is a factory machining issue and not an install problem. If you care what your hammer looks like, don't buy this handle. I'm sure they work but they look like a mistake. I burned mine. On the upside they are solid and nice looking.

Excellent Vintage-looking Handle
The shape and lines are very similar to the old vintage style of handles. I have purchased a lot of new and old handles. This has to be one of the best. I restore old hammers as a hobby. My wife thinks it's ridiculous to own so many hammers. However, how could I trust the judgement of a woman who was willing to marry a guy who restores old hammers for a hobby. If I had one critique it would be the wedge split goes a little too far down. I would prefer no split at all. If u shape it properly and use two steel wedges at 45 degree angles, the installation looks much closer to factory.

Repaired a hammer with this handle
A solid chuck of wood to replace a broken 16 oz claw hammer handle. Fit well, no bad blemeshes or splits, needs sanding before finishing with oil, that is all!
