Enclosure Case Caddy for 12,7mm (Slimline) optical drives (Blu-Ray, DVD, CD) Mini-USB external IDE black

A good case and works in accordance with the specification on Amazon. I used it to house a redundant Panasonic/Matshita BD-CMB-UJ-120 DVD/BR player from an old Sony laptop which had failed (cannot even boot). Fitting was straight forward: separate the upper and lower halves, plug drive into socket at inside rear, fit front bezel (this is included), refit top, and fit a couple of screws through the rear of the case to secure the drive in the case. It was recognized straight way by Windows 10, but would only play audio cd's at first. I came back a couple of hours later and found it would now play DVD's but not Blue-Ray. I then updated my blue-ray player (Power DVD) and it will now play CD's, DVD's and BR's. Now happy, and I would recommend it if you have an old player. The extra power lead was not needed. Make sure you get the one with correct connector: IDE or SAT.

Out of the box it does not work, the adapter is not recognized by the USB interface. The adapter does not give any sign of life except the spinning of the disc inside the optical drive, that, is embedded in the firmware of the drive, when you power it on, it tries to recognize the disc, and apparently it does but from the adapter not a single sign of life on two different computers. So, for me, this is an expensive piece of garbage. Thank you FirstCom.

This housing worked fine, i installed a spare laptop bluray burner that i had saved from my old Sony laptop, the only problem i have got is that the drive i used had a Shaped tray end trim shaped to fit the sony,i had to remove the trim to fit the drive into the housing, and the housing did not come with one shaped for the housing, so now no end trim.

I do not know if the problem I encoutered was caused by the Caddy case, my old DVD-RW drive, or the USB ports I attached to, but I thought I should warn potential users. I bought one of these to re-use teh SUperdrive from an iMac G5 with failed mother-board. Removing the drive from the G5 and inserting into the caddy was a doddle. I attached the external power supply, and inserted a disk. This was swallowed, showing that the external power supply was working. I then attached the USB port to a spare port on my iMac keyboard. Almost immediately I got an on-screen message: USB device drawing too much power, USB poert disabled to prevent damage. However before I could detach it I heard popping noise from the keyboard (overloaded capacitors?) since when the keyboard has been inoperative. Fortunately I still had the keyboard from my older iMac. With that attached I tried again. What I did not understand is why it was drawing power from USB when an external power supply was hooked up. This time I attached it to a 4-port USB hub. Sam on-screen message. Similar result ... a fried and inoperative USB hub. Fortunately none of the computer's own UISB ports were damaged. So net result was about 50 GBP worth of damage, and I have a Superdrive in an external hub that I need not have bought, and that I dare not try to use in case I do more and even more expensive damage. Fortunately I had bought an Icy Box for my old hard drive, and successfully rescued the internal 1Tb disk from the odl machine, so I now have an extra 1Tb external disk, so my activities ere not completely useless. Anyway ... you have been warned. It is not necessarily all plain sailing.

Recently bought an ultra-portable and needed a DVD drive to install software. I bought this to salvage my DVD-RW off my old laptop. What can I say, it wasn't too hard to put together, just split the case open and insert. It works fine as well. Just plug it into the USB port and it recgnises it straight away. My only minor gripes are that the drawer sticks a little bit when closing (more a fault of my drive) and the packaging is wholly unnecessary (it's only a plastic box after all)

Despite being advertised as "slim" this was too big for my UJ 842 drive, the aperture being too big. I could have put up with this, but the case failed to work, and discs would not burn (the drive was a good one). Cannot recommend this product. Returned.

Finally an IDE optical drive caddy. <Damn hard to find>. Everything about this product is good and it definitely gets the job done. The only gripe is that the caddy case does not have a front cover. Bummer.

Ich habe mir vor einigen Jahren mal einen Plextor DVD-Brenner für ein Notebook zugelegt. Dieses Gerät ist einfach hochwertiger und schneller als die meist in Notebooks verbauten LG-Geräte. In meinen bisherigen Notebooks habe ich das Gerät auch immer nutzen können, mein "neuer" besitzt jedoch einen SATA-Brenner. Also hab ich nun den geliebten Plextor übrig. Darum hab ich mir das Gehäuse bestellt, um den Plextor weiter nutzen zu können. Einbau: Extrem simpel. Das Laufwerk wird einfach ins Gehäuse geschoben und mit zwei beiliegenden Schrauben fixiert. Sehr einfach, das Gehäuse muss dazu nicht geöffnet werden! Anschluss: Es liegen zwei USB-Kabel bei, eins für Strom und Daten, eins für Strom. Das Gerät wird beim Anschluss mit dem Datenkabel bereits erkannt und läuft auch einwandfrei. Beim Brennen würde ich jedoch den Anschluss des zweiten Kabels (Strom) aufgrund der erhöhten Stromaufnahme empfehlen (Steht auch so in der Anleitung). Möglich wäre auch der Anschluss eines kleinen Steckernetzteils, wie man es im Elektronikladen kaufen kann, da es sich bei der zweiten Buchse um eine Standard-Netzteilbuchse für Hohlstecker handelt. Damit wäre dann nur ein USB-Anschluss belegt. Ein kleines 5 Volt / 1 Ampere Netzteil würde wohl reichen, muss aber extra gekauft werden. Mein Fazit: Wer einen übrigen Slim-Brenner hat oder sich einen externen Brenner, z.B. fürs Netbook, zulegen möchte der ist hier genau richtig. Ein sehr einfaches Gehäuse zum günstigen Preis. Auch die Verarbeitung lässt keine Wünsche offen, das Gehäuse sieht sehr hochwertig aus.

Facile à monter. J'ai ouvert le boitier avec précaution pour installer le lecteur car il ne glissait pas jusqu'au bout. Convient pour mon SATA très fin. J'ai quand même bien mesurer les dimensions une fois mon lecteur démonté avant de commander car tous les boitiers n'ont pas la même hauteur d'ouverture pour glisser le lecteur. Il me fallait un très fin.

Alla fine il mio masterizzatore DVD (recuperato da un Toshiba Satellite) è stato riconosciuto e gestito alla perfezione, alimentato solo da una presa USB, senza bisogno della suplementare. L'alloggiamento è in plastica e sembra solido. In dotazione un cavetto USB a/b e un cavetto che collega il jack di alimentazione con una seconda porta USB. Non c'è l'alimentatore di rete. Però non c'è alcuna istruzione di montaggio, che non è così immediato, solo istruzioni sui cavetti USB (esclusivamente in tedesco). Se a qualcuno potesse servire, alla fine ho scoperto che l'alloggiamento si apre facendo scivolare all'indietro (con un po' di fatica) e poi sollevando la parte superiore. In questo modo si può controllare la corretta connessione dell'unità con la scheda, altrimenti difficoltosa a scatola chiusa. Le due vitine che bloccano il tutto fanno molta fatica ad avvitarsi, perchè i fori di passaggio sulla parte inferiore del case sono molto stretti. Io ho dovuto prima avvitarle con la parte superiore rimossa, in modo da controllarne l'avanzamento e creare correttamente la filettatura. Il cacciavitino NON è fornito. Una volta riposizionata la parte superiore, che scorre con un po' di fatica, occorre controllare che la porta USB sia innestata nel case (occorre forzare un po' fino a sentire lo scatto). Attenzione che la connessione IDE/Pata si sfila abbastanza facilmente, quindi quando si fa scorrere la parte superiore per richiudere bisogna assicurarsi che l'unità non scorra avanti anche lei. Una volta fissate a dovere le viti, invece, il tutto acquista una buona solidità. Grosso problema, inoltre, con il frontalino fornito in dotazione: gli attacchi non erano assolutamente compatibili con il cassetto della mia unità, quindi ho dovuto tenere l'originale che è però un filo troppo alto e prende dentro nella parte superiore dell'alloggiamento. Quando apro il cassetto devo tenere premuto il case lateralmente in modo da incurvarne leggermente il bordo superiore e permettere la fuoriuscita... Nulla di trascendentale, però non è un difetto da poco. Tra l'altro il frontalino in dotazione non è proprio il massimo, molto sottile e con il tastino di espulsione un po' approssimativo.

Gutes Gerät, einfache Installation: Man braucht nur wenig Fingerspitzengefühl beim Einschieben des Laufwerks - Kein Öffnen des Gehäuses und (in meinem Fall) kein Nachbessern der Blende. Von hinten Verschrauben, Kabel dran, wird sofort erkannt (Ubuntu, XP) Einzig der Satz "Unterstützt USB 1.1, USB 2.0 sowie USB 3.0 mit bis zu 480 Mbit/s" ist etwas irreführend: Das Gerät hat nur USB 2.0 Standard (480 Mbit/s) und wird von der abwärtskompatiblen USB 3.0 Schnittstelle entsprechend angesteuert.
