Compustar CS920-S (920S) 1-Way Remote Start and Keyless Entry System with 1500-ft Range

The Compustar CS920-S remote start and keyless entry system works exactly as advertised and is a great upgrade for older vehicles. The build quality of the components is solid, with thick wiring and sturdy connectors that feel durable. The remotes have a clean layout with a satisfying click and good signal range—easily reaching across a parking lot. Installation is straightforward if you’re familiar with automotive wiring, but pairing it with a bypass module makes setup smoother. Once installed, the system performs flawlessly: quick remote starts, strong response, and reliable locking every time. Perfect entry-level system for dependable cold-weather starts and added convenience.

This is a GREAT remote starter, super long range, easily configurable options, and great for the DIYer that is looking to put on in an older car with an easy bypass for ignition module. Do be aware though, this is NOT for newer vehicles with push button start! If you use this on a vehicle with push button start, you are either a heathen of the automotive industry or you have no idea what you're doing, either way, stop. Newer vehicles with PBS use a low current version of this that doesn't shove a 30A fused lead into a signal input meant for only a few milli-amps to flow when the button is pressed! I had a 2012 Mazda CX-9 come in with something like this installed, completely ruined the dashboard harness when the part it was wired into couldn't take it anymore. Take it from me; the insurance deductible on a 12k electrical nightmare job is NOT fun, and nor is the jacked rates for when the bills are due. However, on the 2001 Ford Escape I put this in, worked great, never any issues, and honestly, I think it's better than the rest at the price point. Highly recommended.

I was sceptical at first and looked at the reviews before buying. When I got the unit I was surprised as to how well it was built. Installation was fairly easy and worked as promised. I am very pleased with my purchase. Remember to read entire description. I had to purchase separate fuse/relay box for power windows, horn relay, light relay etc. This went into my 1973 Nova so everything had to be upgraded. Very impressed with my autostart. I really appreciate the smart technology that can read when my car is on so my starter will not run and damage my flywheel. Old cars need different crank times which this unit allows to adjust.

After installing this in my Diesel pickup I wanted to configure the fuel pump delay before ignition and now I know that you need a separate programmer (FirstTech Compustar Programming FT-OP500 Programmer - Latest Firmware Loaded https://a.co/d/fk2z11z) just to set it up. This is really disappointing and kills the value of this product. To have what I want this device will cost 140$ dollars! I would not have done this. It does have a UART port, if the device can be configured via the UART interface then I will update the review header and give 5 stars as I have no other complaints. Update: I called MyFirstTech, and spoke to a representative who stated that the device vould not be programmed via the UART port, and that these devices HAVE to be installed by an authorized dealer, they offer no support to DIY peeps, and proceeded to regurgitate some nonsensical gatekeeping jargon. Again, i am very disappointed and due to their company policy i doubt they should be allowed to sell their product here. If youre a boomer, then go to best buy and install this. If you're in the real world i suggest just buying an esp32 and some relays and afterwards you'll learn something and be able to configure your own setup with your own computer.

The range is amazing and it works well. This was installed on a 2000 tundra with no immobilizer so about as simple of an install as you could ask for. The instructions from the company aren’t super easy to find or helpful. It’s also complicated to program, such as changing it from a pre determined crank time to a rpm sense. But $60 later and I’m not getting into a cold truck.

It does exactly what it says it does, it is a great, inexpensive 1-way remote starter. I installed this in my 2007 Hyundai, Santa Fe. BUT, be warned if you are not comfortable working with the electric system of your vehicle, do yourself a favor and get someone else to do it. Yes, some cars are easier then others to install this, so do your homework before buying this or any other remote starter and want to attempt to installing it yourself. Me, I am very comfortable working on cars and know my way around them both mechanically and electrically... BUT.... when I was soldering an ignition wire to the ignition harness in my car, my soldering iron came in contact with metal on the dash by accident. It blew something I didn't know what and my car would not crank again. It took me almost 5 hours to figure out what it was that I blew out in my car. I was worried I fried something real bad. My first inclination was that I blew my ignition assembly lock since it was closest to where I was soldering, that wasn't it. Then I thought I may have blown my starter which would have been really bad, that wasn't it either. Then I checked my ignition relay, that wasn't it, then I checked the ignition fuse, that wasn't it, then checked the fusible link, that wasn't it either. Eventually I found out that my car had two fusible links not just one for the ignition and that last one was blown one. Once I replaced that blown fusible link, it was back to normal. The point I am trying to say here is, even I who has a lot of experience fixing cars had this happen to me so think twice before you decide you want to install it yourself. Be prepared to expect the unexpected when installing this product on your specific vehicle.

Installed well. Has some good features and expandability, but I do wish alarm options could be added on. While the system does work well, the key fob buttons are constantly being pressed in my pocket even when there’s nothing else in the pocket. That’s a first for me. For that reason, the fob gets set aside anytime I’m working on the vehicle (or there’s a valet mode, which is easy to activate). Range has been an issue, even with a fresh battery in the remote. I’ve found that I can’t let my hand wrap around the fob when I’m pressing buttons because it doesn’t seem to transmit out of the antenna bump, but rather from the back left of the fob. With my hand in the way I often can’t even unlock the vehicle when I am standing within 10 feet. The factory fob has been much more reliable. It is nice to know that when I eventually have the money to spare I can upgrade to the 2-way fob, which is hopefully better. Overall I would purchase this system again, I’m just hoping the range issues get better. Today it took repeated presses when I tried to remote start the vehicle from about 30 feet away. I finally had to stick my arm out the front door and give it a couple of tries.

It works .. 2009 mazda5 .. No blade need it if you get creative.. It will take about 2 hours if you know what your doing.. if you're like me trying to get all the information about the wiring color code you will spend about a day .. because this system doesn't come with instructions and you need to fish out all from the internet.. but it can be done with very little knowledge of electrical engineering.. Just be careful because you have 3 attempts before the computer goes into vale mode then you need to take it out of there before you do anything else.. it is a process.. also you need to do the hood pin and the rims signal otherwise will not work...

Surprise, as of January 2024 the 920S comes with the upgraded 1500ft 900R remotes and upgraded antenna like the 925S ! If you have wired a stereo in your car in the past then you should have no problems installing this remote start system. Most of these lower end Compustar remote starts are based on same CM900 brain, even the 4900S which costs 2x as much. There are 2 ways of getting around immobilizer in 2000 and newer cars. You either purchase $17 Greensen /Qiiyu car immobilizer 12v kit like I did and use your spare/valet key in the box (mount it somewhere accessible so you can remove the key during summer) or you visit your local radio/alarm install shop and ask 'politely' if they are willing to sell you a pre-programmed to your car Blade AL module which slides in the back of the CM900 brain unit. Technically the remote start and the immobilizer box (with spare key) are wired separately. The immobilizer box just needs 12v when ignition turns ON. That's it. I installed this in a 2008 Subaru Forester and it works great. In a Subaru you can also disable factory alarm by inserting the key, turning on ignition and opening drivers door and quickly holding the door unlock button until you hear 2 honks. This is the best remote start option on a budget (otherwise we'd be spending $500 to have one like it installed). I used to have a Compustar remote start system nearly 18 years ago in my VW which is why I trust the Compustar brand. Yes they try to make it difficult for regular DIY'ers like us and have you go to a shop but you can get around it with some patience and some googling. Good luck.

Unless you REALLY know what you are doing or are able to get the schematics you need in order to wire this to your specific vehicle, don’t bother!! This comes with no diagrams or instructions at all. Only a QR code that requires you to sign up with compustar as a licensed dealer or installer before they decide if they will, OR WON’T, send you the install info you need or give you any support. I’m sure the unit works fine once installed, but there is a reason that FB marketplace is FULL of brand new in the box remote starters for sale… people buy them here, realize there are no diagrams or support for the average person and the wiring is over their head, so they give up, and then realize that amazon or the seller won’t accept returns. Save the headache and just pay someone to supply and install one properly. Do not buy one of these expecting to install it yourself !!
