Can be used as stage wedge, but no feet or protection
This is my first EV purchase -- I've been a JBL Pro (specifically, the EON series) user for over a decade.I needed some additional stage monitors for live music, but as a guy who provides live sound services to local bands (mostly for pleasure and not so much for the money), it's difficult to justify $600+ out-of-pocket for the EON speakers that I love, when the EV ZLX series appear to be so similar (and popular!) for about $200 less.I can't write a full review because I have not used or even looked into every feature of these ZLX -- I literally pulled them from the boxes and put them on stage. And they worked like a CHAMP!I tend to keep the monitor mix mostly flat (just a touch of EQ on vocals as needed) with a high bandpass roll-off at about 150Hz (rarely ever any need for low frequencies on stage). I ran three bands last weekend, and two of them specifically mentioned how clear their monitors were. Dang, thanks for making me look good, EV!But I have to gripe a little, and it has nothing to do with ability or performance. These are designed to not only stand straight up or pole-mount, but also kick back on their sides to use as stage wedges. The problem is that there are no rubber feet or bumpers anywhere except on the bottom, so if you use these as stage wedges, you're literally laying them flat on their sides -- it's just begging them to get scuffed and scratched and gouged, even if you avoid sliding them around. What the heck, EV? I'm surprised how a company that's been in the live sound business for over 90 years would commit such an elementary oversight.Maybe other sound guys don't care about how their tools look as long as they work, and that's fair. For those of us who do care, we'll need to get a set of rubber mats to go with them. They're still worth every dollar I paid, and truly worth 5 stars for their value and performance, but I don't want them to look like trash after only a years' use. That one issue aside, JBL needs to watch out, as I will be looking at more EV equipment in the future!
