Ker Nethalas: Into the Midnight Throne

Clean, easy system for solo play
This RPG uses a very straightforward, fast moving game system that is well suited for solitaire play. Don’t know how it would work with a group of players, and some people might not like it lack of a “tactical“ feel. But for a light game, or a game at a con, I think this would be a good choice. Character creation is especially well done and interesting and the premise (trapped in a necropolis) is intriguing.

Best solo rpg I've ever played
My husband is a gamer so I bought him a stack of solo rpgs after we moved far away from his gaming group. He played through the stack and enjoyed them but set them aside. Then he picked up this one and disappeared for days into his man cave. "Best solo I've ever played", he said. I liked rpgs too, but isn't the point to get with friends and have fun as a group? Solo?? I tried it. The rules were quick to learn, the character creation gave you a lot of options. Rolling up a 'weak' character was offset by the system so that you weren't hopelessly doomed, nor overpowered by super rolling either. The mysteries gave your character a bit more power than a first level character in other systems, but I soon found out that my characters needed it because the catacombs of Ker Nerthalas alas have little pity. It is a tough adventure. The mood is gloomy, gritty, and dark. This might be the only solo game I've ever played but it has an intimacy that group games do not have. My husband plays these a lot and this is hands down his favorite. He tends to like the sword and I like the sorcery. With the mysteries you can even mix the two.

Fun game, but binding issues
Ker Nethalas has a fantastic premise, with solid world building (revealed over time thru lore tidbits), and an admittably crunchy but interesting combat system. However, the binding on my paperback edition has NOT been holding up. Multiple pages have come loose with light usage, so I have to knock off a star.

Gritty Solo RPG
Lots of dice, lots of tables, lots of flavor. I’m new to solo dungeon crawlers. I prefer this game to D100 Dungeon and 4 Against Darkness. The atmosphere that is described in the book is very dark and gritty. The character building is awesome.

A dark solo RPG
Having a good time with this so far. Excellent support; the designer is very involved in answering any questions. 5 stars.

Solo dungeon crawl
Think solo dnd and you're close. This book has everything to start a character running through a random dungeon. You'll seek out bosses and face monsters aplenty.System works great. I enjoy it though I found myself the rp element of a tabletop rpg. I felt a little dice roll fatigue as I moved room to room, but still feel it's a solid solo experience.

Amazing D100 Solo RPG
I have heard nothing but amazing things about this, and when I got it, I was not disappointed. I even went and got the online pdf version and all the other extra source material from online. If you are looking for an all in one Solo RPG, this is the one to get. It's very well written and have speed in mind when thinking of gameplay. You will need a normal set or two of polyhedral dice, as in a set of 7 DnD dice, to play this game effectively because it utilizes a D100 game style, a pencil, eraser and some paper and you are set to go. This is very different from DnD, and plays it's own way, in a grimdark style gameplay, with a different death system and leveling system. There are plenty of spark tables to roll from and build your own story, and dungeon maps. It also has the option for it to play as a co-op which is amazing for those who play RPG's in small groups. Very fun. Lot's of room to homebrew your own ideas too.

Fun and Engaging
The D100 system gives the game the right amount of difficulty with a lot of reward.I particularly appreciate the combat and the feel the necropolis gives the feeling of a dangerous place

Great Solo/Coop RPG
Really good game, can be played solo or coop. Has lots of depth and enough complexity to make it interesting and gives it tons of replayability. Includes 20 classes to choose from, from which you choose two. That opens tons of very interesting combinations to try and experiment with.
