Surgical Pathology Revision: Second Edition
L**)
Must Have For Part B Of MRCS
I just smashed out Part B of MRCS in May 2012. This little book is a gem. Buy it. Read it. Pass your exam. You do not need to know pathology in more depth than this book and it has plenty of broad depth.

Clear and simple
Good, concise, simple explanations though maybe a few absent definitions and subjects which I had anticipated. Useful nonetheless as a quick reference and aide-memoire.

Perfect for revision
I bought this to revise for the MRCS part A, and it's very well set up for this. 1 or 2 pages on each little topic, giving facts in paragraphs under questions such as 'Define an abscess' or 'Classify lymphoedema'.It is comprehensive, and set up alphabetically so you can dip in and out, or read it like a normal book without getting too many topics mixed up in your head. It also helps with the procedure of answering questions, which not only helps with written exams but can help structure your thinking in vivas/OSCEs.

Easy to read. What examiners want, in the way they want it.
This question and answer book greatly helps to rapidly assimilate surgeon-specific knowledge on an otherwise vast and tedius subject in a way which encourages clear classification of your answers, in the format the MRCS examiners love.Although I would never describe any book on pathology as riveting, I was surprised at how easy this book was to read and how few cups of tea I needed to consume to stay awake reading it. The only problem with this book (and all books that follow this format) is the lack of an index - a major oversight - now I'll never be able to find which trematode infects watercress! Definately my favourite MRCS preparation book - a must buy.

recommended
Yes, this is definitely required to pass the pathology part of the MRCS viva. But like the Kanani physiology/critical care books, there is a fair amount of information which is a little small print and irrelevant. It is exactly these little bits of information that stresses you out during revision. Highy recommended overall though.
