Jackson Galaxy Gotcha! Cat Wand Toy, Interactive Feather Teaser for Cats

OK. I never leave reviews, BUT, since I received this item, I have to say: My 8 year old cat (from the shelter), is a real huntress. She loves playing with all kinds of wand toys. When, I started playing with the Gotcha! Wand Toy, the play rose to a whole other level. She now thinks most other toys are "meh" and I am happy to have spent the extra money to offer my almost senior cat this experience. I can't imagine how much more younger cats will love this.

I was sent a defective product and the seller refused to replace it. My cats liked the wand, however, after using it just a few times, I tried to fully extend the telescoping metal pole. It immediately snapped off. So I paid a premium price for a product that was only good for two 5 minutes play sessions. I think it was a defective one, however looking at the construction (it’s not reinforce where the metal wand meets the handle, I can’t imagine this toy would hold up very well, even if it were manufactured properly. Poor design being sold on the back of Jackson Galaxy’s reputation (which is why I tried it). He should vet his endorsements more carefully. I contacted the seller and they told me it was out of the return window, so I’m out of luck. Any reputable company would exchange a defective product so they could make the customer whole and also see the defective product and make corrections. A company only acts this way if they know there is something wrong with the product and don’t care. Do yourself a favor and buy a Go Cat wand toy (but only with a ONE piece pole). The quality and durability is much better and they have different toys you can swap out.

My cat loves this toy. It retracts along with the wand. I'm far enough away so she can't notice I'm holding the wand. She'll stop playing with the short wands. Smart cat. The price is reasonable because of the good quality. It's made well and safe. Good Ole Jackson always looking out for the cats.

Update: This is now the second of these wands where the cord has snapped and frayed after not very much use compared to the previous version of this toy. The purple version of This wand had a plastic connector piece that would wear away over time, but we used that toy heavily for well over a year before having to replace it. The blue version is much worse quality, and doesn't function as well. The cord is much thinner, and much weaker. I'd rather have the purple one back. And yet this is still the only wand with retractable handle and a retractable cord that I've found. I'm honestly mad about it. I'd mark it a 1 except it's still more convenient than every wand that doesn't have a retractable cable ___________________ Original review: Honestly disappointed with this wand. We owned several of the earlier iteration, the one with the purple handle, and find the blue on inferior. Pros: The blue handled version uses a different connector for the toy, which avoids a problem the purple one had where eventually the plastic of the connector would get worn and the end would come off. The build quality is high, what we've come to expect from Jackson Galaxy toys. Cons: Something about the changes made has made the quality of the cord on the blue version specifically much worse. It twists and tangles constantly, we have to stop frequently to set it right. I would genuinely rather have the purple version, which played easily but needed to be replaced every year or so, than this blue version, which will probably last forever simply because it's too frustrating to use for more than a few minutes at a time. Also nitpicky, but: the handle on the blue is slightly thinner, which for me makes it more uncomfortable to grip. I'm not rating it lower because it's still one of the sturdiest wands on the market. But the purple one would have had 4 stars. Bring back our beloved purple design, the flow of play was a million times better.

I would probably give this one closer to 3.5 stars, but I did round up for the sake of Jackson Galaxy. This review can be summed up with 3 points: 1. It seems very high quality compared to other wands, though it is about double the price. I love the feel of the material, and it feels very nice. The fact that the rod itself is retractable, and so is the cord, is very nice. The fact that the nose or tip of the JG portion of the wand is the retracting button is cute, and well thought out. 2. It's so heavy... compared to some other wands I have, the fact that it is made a with a bit higher grade material, it is also pretty heavy. I find this makes playing and maneuverability a little harder, and I can't 'fling' the feather or other item attached to the end of the string as easily. It seems to create a pendulum affect more so. Due to the heaviness, I hope the durability keeps up and doesn't put too much pressure on the retractable rod. It definitely bends downwards when fully pulled out. 3. The feather toy included quickly rips apart. This is my first feather toy, so maybe that's just what happens to all of them. It is easily replaceable with another toy to put on the cord with a metal clip, so not a huge issue. The metal clip is very tight, so it takes some dexterity to unclamp and replace the toy. As long as the rod and cord hold up, it should be great, though. Overall, I feel it was a good purchase, and I'm glad I have it. We'll see how it holds up over time. Hopefully the better materials will give it more longevity than some of the cheaper ones. Probably wouldn't buy a second one, but maybe that's the point.

My cat loved it more than any other feather wand before for the 15 minutes we got to play with it before she cut through the string with her teeth while trying to catch it. It literally fluttered like a bird might until that point, though. And you can replace the feathered part, but the string is a permanent fixture so we wasted $17

Best toy my cat has ever had. She is literally panting while playing. She has actually ignored her automatic food bowl (which never happens) a couple times because she didnt want to stop playing with this!!

My cat is extremely picky. We've spent hundreds on toys and usually she completely ignores them. At best, we've found a catnip toy that she absolutely loves, but it's an expensive one that she destroys over time. Majority of non-wand toys do not appeal to her in the slightest, and even with wands we've found some that she will respond to half-heartedly, and only when used with her tunnel or with other obstacles like pillows or the couch. When I opened this wand, she was immediately hooked. I've never seen her sprint and jump and stay engaged for so long, let alone at all. Usually playtime ends because she won't respond to anything. This time I had to be the one to end it because she just wouldn't stop. This toy could break in a month and I'd keep buying new ones just to see her this alive. Her energy and play have been concerns for a long time. She's only 3 and always wants to play but never actually does. This is just such a relief. Thank you so much!
