Best lesson of my adult life.
Be aware that the grumpy mood cloud can come from someone else to you. Resist the contagion.

Clever but lacking panache
Lemony Snicket's picture books seem to have become more prosaic after the ill-received oddity of 13 Words (unfortunate, as 13 Words is my favorite of his picture books). This is a straightforward but clever story about the "interconnectedness of all things" - or at least, six people and one raccoon fortuitously interconnected by a bad mood, a stick, and some tasty-looking ice cream. The artwork is delightful, with full-page spreads, soft colors, and a great attention to detail. Much of the humor comes from small details in the illustrations: the expression on a young boy's face when his sister gets in trouble, a reoccurring cat that bears the bad mood during its absence in the text, and the final illustration of a two-step gag that brings the story full circle. The text contains a couple innuendos to entertain adults reading this book with their children, mainly in the descriptions of the budding romance between two characters. However, the straightforwardness of the story hurts its repeat value; unlike with 13 Words, I would soon get sick of re-reading this multiple times with a small child. Be sure to remove the dust jacket at some point to admire the additional artwork on the board covers.

Wonderful Book
My grandchildren (ages 4 to 10) love this book. The adults love reading it aloud. Lemony Snicket's wonderfully wry sense of humor entertains us all while slyly transmitting good lessons.

Great for kids - learning feelings
We love this book. Fun for the kids and helpful to teach them that bad moods come but then they go. Lighthearted and a good read.

Enjoyed Reading It
This isnโt a long book, so I was able to read it to my 5 yr old granddaughter without her losing interest.

I loved A Series of Unfortunate Events growing up, so when I saw that Lemony Snicket had released a children's book, I had to get it for my class. The book is brilliant for teaching children how your mood can have an effect on how other's feel. Lemony's writing is brilliant & the illustrations are lovely. A definite recommendation!
