Good for smart home
I love this hub. I used it to add a split type ac to my HomeKit setup. When I got it didn’t have compatibility with my ac. I submitted a request for it and it was updated to support my ac within a week. It’s quick to respond with Siri and not too difficult to set up. It’s also easy to hide away since it’s pretty small.

Modern, good loud speaker but has a few quirks
I like that this incorporates Zigbee 3.0, Matter, Bluetooth, WiFi and Ethernet (with PoE) among other connectivity. Its about the size of an Apple TV, powers off a USB C PD connection or PoE and provides a great integration with Amazon Alexa and Apple Homekit - both of which I utilize. I also have this integrated with Matter into Home Assistant which then brings my accessories (U50 Door Lock, No Neutral Light Switches) into Home Assistant seamlessly. I did have a lot of issues pairing with the Aqara FP2 Presence sensor - but then worked out that I don't really have a strong use case for a presence sensor as of now so returned it. I would really like this hub to be able to pair with third party Zigbee 3.0 devices and not just third party Matter devices. I hope this comes in a future update. However, as of now, it works well. It is a bit on the expensive side, but I thought it was worth the premium for a bit of future functionality. There are other much cheaper Aqara hubs you could get if you need a basic one.

A high quality, high functionality device marred by a poor app and expensive accessories
A really good solid hub. Very reliable. The automations never failed to run. Nice built in speaker with various alarm options. Cool ablity to bundle together multiple sensors into a single Matter "signal". For example--6 water leak sensors--if a single 1 of them registers water, the combined signal fires and alerts my Home Assitant which is connected to the M3 hub via Matter. You can choose what Aqara items to expose to Matter, which is great., it doesn't just puke out everything unless you want that. If I recall it's similar for HomeKit, but I did not get into that too much. Why 4 stars? It cannot adopt 3rd party zigbee. This is not a secret and they do tell you this prominently in the description. But what I found is I need more zigbee routers or else some Aqara sensors that are far away from the hub lose connection. So Aqara's outlets are like $30 and normal generic zigbee outlets are like $12. So I was considering how I would need to add several outlets for the sole purpose of extending the Aqara zigbee network. Aqara may be better quality than most, but the cost of the required network rapidly expanded. Why pay 3x for outlets that are only going to be routers and will not even have anything plugged into them? And I would be adding yet another (third) zigbee network to my existing Hue and Home Assistant networks. Plus the wifi also at the same frequency. And anyway with a generic zigbee setup I can just get an _actual_ zigbee range extender like the Aeotec Zi. So the lack of afforable range extenders is a huge issue with Aqara. Then lets talk about the Aqara app. It is chaotic, jumbled, confusing, phone-only (no computer access except via a MacBook running the iPad version). Dashboards and interfaces you create are trapped on that particular device, not stored on the hub. It's a horrid task to try to set up the same things for my devices plus everyone in my family. So as an automation-only proposition it is good. If you wanted dashbords and you do not live alone with a single phone...it's not a great exprience. If you are all-in on the Aqara ecosystem, this is the only Aqara hub to consider. Its ability to form a redundant cluster with another Aqara hub is spectacular and unique. I am selling mine on ebay as it was not a good fit for my house. I hate to see it go in some ways, but my home assistant box and generic Zigbee routers are cheaper and as a complete system work better. I _am_ still using my Aqara leak sensors, door contact sensors, and temp sensors as they work great...I'm just not using Aqara technology to inteface with them.

For me, the hub is largely useless.
I bought this thinking that I could enable remote management of the locks. However, almost all management requires you to be physically near the lock and connected via bluetooth. The only thing this hub really provides (for me) is the ability to remote unlock. Which is somewhat pointless, as I could easily just text someone a passcode. I assumed this would allow a local bluetooth connection to be administered remotely. Nor can you sync credentials across the locks. Passcodes and fingerprints must be set up on each lock individually. Nor does it enable the UWB approach-to-unlock functionality. Connecting the lock to the hub, for each lock, was somewhat of a pain and required maybe 20 minutes of repeated attempts for me (I'm using Android). It's a lot of work for nothing. Yes, it does allow automation, but I'm wanting simple admin functionality.

Reliable Smart Home Hub That Works Seamlessly With Aqara Devices
This smart home hub has worked great with our Aqara setup so far, especially with the smart door lock and door sensor we recently installed. Everything connected smoothly and has been working reliably together for our automations and smart home routines. The hub helps everything communicate quickly and consistently, making the overall system feel much smarter and more convenient to use. Setup was straightforward, and overall it has been a great addition to our growing smart home setup.

Update: Recent Improvements Have Helped
My initial review was critical of compatibility between this device and other Aqara devices, but those issues have since been sorted out with an update to the Aqara Home app. I appreciate that the company prioritized my feedback, and the hub's been quite stable overall. I like that it can be powered using PoE, and transferring devices from the M2 to the M3 was actually quite easy for me, despite what others have said (though I will say that it was quite difficult to restore automations in the Apple Home app, but that's not really Aqara's fault. Pro tip: use an app like Controller after hub migration to restore HomeKit automations that you've backed up).

Buggy integrations, but solid Aqara device connectivity
The app needs major work. In particular, even when your settings are in Fahrenheit, it will communicate with an AC unit in Celsius. If you hit up/down then it will still increment in C, resulting in a decimal for you in the app. The Aqara devices were easy to connect, and adding the HVAC unit was pretty easy. However, after lots of effort, I could not get it connected to HomeAssistant or Google Home with Matter.

Best thing since sliced bread
I got this hub to use a as a "matter" bridge. I have it linking a Phillips hue bridge and lifx light bulbs. I wanted to control the lifx bulbs on/off + dimming capabilities and the "hue" remote has no equal, so far. After countless of hours of research, it boiled down to using the "matter" protocol. Not only this hub supports "matter", but also zigbee, and wifi devices (among others). The automations to that can be configured, as well as the app, are very robust; although at times, not intuitive. I cut it some slack on that front since it can do so much, I can see how it would be difficult to simplify it.

Powerful, reliable… with great support
I’ve used a lot of hubs over the years, and most fall into two categories: “limited” or “temperamental.” The Aqara M3 has ended up being the brains of my smart home — but I’ll be honest, we had a rocky start. Setup – mostly smooth Getting it up and running was straightforward, and adding devices was quick. It immediately felt like a more capable, future-proof hub compared to many others I’ve used. Connectivity superpowers This thing is a proper multi-protocol workhorse: ✔ Zigbee devices pair fast and stay connected ✔ Matter devices integrate nicely ✔ Acts as a Thread Border Router ✔ Brings multiple ecosystems together in one place It’s reduced my hub clutter and made automations far more centralised. The UniFi hiccup (and excellent support) I did run into some early issues using it on a UniFi Network setup. Certain Matter connections were being stubborn and things weren’t behaving as expected. Here’s where Aqara really impressed me: their support team stepped in, made some backend adjustments remotely (actual wizardry), and after that everything settled down and started working properly. Since then, it’s been solid. So if you’re on a more advanced network and hit issues, don’t panic — support clearly knows their stuff. Reliability – the real win Since getting past that initial network quirk, the M3 has been excellent. - Automations trigger quickly - Devices stay connected - No random reboots or “offline” moods It’s the kind of device you stop thinking about — which is exactly what you want from a smart home hub. Local control = fast responses A lot of automations run locally, so things respond quickly and don’t fall over if the internet has a wobble. Lights and buttons feel instant, not cloud-delayed. Verdict Early networking hiccup aside (which support sorted quickly), the Aqara M3 has turned into a rock-solid, extremely capable hub. If you want one hub to handle Zigbee, Matter, and Thread and you value strong support behind it, this is an easy recommendation. Now it just quietly runs the house like a tiny, sensible overlord.
